Looking for a Gaming Laptop Prefer a 4070 - Budget $2,500

Boxing Day sales are pretty sucky, I wish I snagged a Legion during Black Friday. I also missed the cash back on Lenovo's store as it ended on Boxing Day.

I feel like best deal on the market ATM is a Legion 5i Pro 16" for $2599. (240 hz 4070 32gb 1tb SSD i9 13900hx) @mwave, surprisingly cheaper than Lenovo ATM with a better CPU only. Maybe a 4060 model to save a few hundred, considering 4070 isn't that much better performing. I also wish there was a Legion 7 Pro in the price range but there's not, unless I preorder a Slim 7 on Mwave ($2300 i7-13700H 32GB 1TB RTX4060) which who knows when that will be ready.

It's so hard to justify spending 2.6k on a non 4080 laptop when 4080 laptops are just at $3k mark. Ugh. Anyway, just after some opinions/ better deals out there. I'm not set on a 4070, but it would be ideal.

  • Have a look at Metabox

    • I'm aware of metabox, and I have a friend with a laptop from them and his battery is really bad. Metabox support basically took a month with his laptop and getting it back the problem was not resolved and only offered to replace a battery (which they werent even confident would fix the problem) as long as they charged him for it + taking another month with his laptop.
      Lost confidence in their brand.

  • I've seen some excellent second hand examples on FB marketplace. Depending on your location, you may be able to grab a great deal for a barely used or sometimes even brand new laptop.

Just had a browse and did see some really nice ones for a really great price. a little sceptical on 2nd hand but still a good suggestion.

  • 4080 for $3K? How? Not sure about that mate. Best price for a 4080 is a Legion Pro 7i (16", Gen 8) @ $3700 and if you're spending that much you may as well blow $5K on 4090/i9 HX/AMD 7XXX/HX spec laptop right now. Wait another 3 to 6 months and you I bet you will see 4090 laptops go for $3K as retailors clear out last season's stock.

    • Gigabyte aorus have 4080 for 3kish. I agree spending more than 3k may aswell be a 4090.
and yeah, Legion 7's are quite expensive. I've seen some good deals 2nd hand though on marketplace. Unfortunately can't wait 3-6 months as i'm without a computer atm.

      • Yeah OK, but Gigabyte is not known for quality laptops and they discount heavily to compete. I don't know anyone who has one/bought one.

Marketplace? Sure you can pick up bargains but anything over $1K I would rather buy from an established shop/retailer for warranty's sake.

Check the usual shops like Centercom, Scorptech, PCCG, MSY. Must be something there around 2.5K that ticks all the boxes?.

yeah, don't worry. gigabyte aorus are not my ideal purchase.
I would assume any 40 series laptop 2nd hand on market place would still have warranty as those cards only came out in 2023. I'm not too fussed, ofcourse i would so some benchmark checks before making the purchase.

Those retailers have some good 4060 devices but ideally looking for 4070. it's a price toss up. Lenovo legion 5 is probably the best laptop I can find for the price.

  • Asus Scar 16" 4070 i9 HX CPU. Good deal!

  • Few more deals to consider i thought you might like..

This is what I would buy. $4.4K but it's a beast and on a steep discount. Considering picking on up even though I don't need it.
