Have had both. They’re all pretty much the same. Amazing price, go for it!

    • +1

Don’t push too hard or the head will break.

      • How do they go with more established stains?

        • +1

It’s definitely best for freshly made stains but I would say you have a good chance. Worthy purchase anyway so give it a shot.

      • Does that render the unit useless? Sorry, haven't used this in the past - so while the price is very tempting, I also want to know what I'd do if the head breaks

        • +1

It can be fixed but you have to pull the whole machine apart. I was in a hurry so just bought a new one.

          • @Skatez: That was after the warranty had expired. Can probably return if still under warranty?

    • +1

And empty the dirty water tank after every use. It can get really smelly if you don’t.

  • +1

    Got one, thanks op!

  • Thanks OP, got one! Any recommendations for detergents? Should I just go with Bissell ones?

  • Thanks OP bought another one. I wanted to replace my previous one (same model) as its had some hard abuse cleaning cars and the heads break a bit to easily but its a good little unit

    • +1

Really want to know, if the head breaks easily, then what's the point of getting this?
I did order one, but am a bit sceptical reading a lot of people say the head breaks easily.

      • +1

Because it cleans stuff so is an extremely handy appliance. My head took 1-2 years to break and that’s probably just because we were pushing too hard.

      • +2

So the head can be brittle, but its the most workable part of the whole rig so to speak. This system works well, I use it for cleaning cars and carpets etc but I know I have to be careful not to put to much force otherwise itll crack/break. Funny that the time it did break its when my family used it… not happening this time haha

  • I've never owned anything like this but now that I'm in a rental with carpet, are these good at getting food stains/marks out of carpet? (kids food - and yes I'm aware it wasn't a great idea to have a carpeted dining area with a baby and toddler).

    • Hahaha the joys of parenthood. It’s good, give it a go. I can’t live without one of these.

    • +1

These are worth their weight in gold when you have a young child, although prevention is better than cure of course, we can never keep up to prevent everything.

The most important thing with carpet stains is to attack them as quickly as possible, this makes that easy, just pull it out the cupboard and get rid of the stain quickly and easily.

The only other thing I'd suggest is something like Oops! Red Wine Stain Remover if you get PlayDoh stains, but the Bissell by itself with carpet shampoo and the brush head can get most stuff out especially if you're quick.

  • Is it possible to clean the entire carpet with it or do I need a different model?

    • +1

No, not a different model. No spot remover cleaner will do a whole carpet. Hire a bigger machine or get a professional in.

      • Can it do sofa and car seats? If you're patient enough? LOL

I was also thinking to hire

      • Get the professionals in. I wouldn’t bother with the britex machine at Bunnings, they are crap.

        • +1

yeah nah - they're fine - I've hired the Britex machines from Bunnings (and some Woolworths?) many times - I use hot water from the tap, cheaper woolwash detergent can work, even vinegar, it's mostly the hot water that lifts the dirt, and repeat spray/vacuum up the dirty water.

A bad workman blames his tools - if you wave it over, don't do it properly and then say it doesn't work - more fool you.

I have paid 'professional' carpet cleaners - one outraged our neighbour by parking his VERY NOISY machine outside her unit door ('too big/heavy to bring up the stairs') until she told him to stop and I told him to leave - no job today.

I have also had quick job professionals not bother to vacuum up the wet who left the carpet sopping wet which didn't dry for two days.

So a bad worker can always do a bad job - used properly, the Britex machines can do an excellent job - the one or two times there was a problem they have refunded me the credit over their phone line. https://britex.com/

Do you prefer to pay $38.60 for 24 hours hire where you can reuse it as many times to get the cleanest possible job - https://www.bunnings.com.au/for-hire-britex-carpet-cleaner-2… or $100 plus for a 20 minutes rush-in-rush-out 'professional' ?

Are you careful and want to ensure a good DIY job and save money, or CBF and pay for whatever - you choose.

          • -3

@Hangryuman: Lol. You would not be a better workman than me. Have fun wasting your money.

            • @Skatez: Lol - sounds like you are selling carpet cleaning services and felt triggered by my comments about bad workers which you identified with - ding !

              • -4

@Hangryuman: Yeah I’m selling carpet cleaning services for every company in Australia. That’s why I am here recommending a DIY carpet cleaner.
Plus I said I bet I am a better worker than you.

Ding! : The sound of a dumb troll thinking he said something smart.

          • +2

@Hangryuman: End of day you get what you pay for. Having been cleaning carpets for 10 years professionally i know what's good and what's bad. With the right equipment (ie truckmount machine) it is not hard to do 2 rooms of carpet in 30 mins, and do it well.

We have chemicals for different stains, we have the machinery to do the job correctly with maximum suction and in summer carpets can be done and dry in 2-3 hours. Obviously winter is different.

I like your enthusiasm but a Britex machine will not get you the cleanest possible job you quote. Crappy chemicals and crappy suction, again i say you get what you pay for. I can not tell how many times we have been called in over the years where someone has use a hired machine and over wet the carpet. with these machine.

Saying all of that I would yes there are bad carpet cleaners where the money made is more important than the job itself. But still can make good money doing a good job. Once you find a good carpet cleaner, keep him.

As for this Bissell, the specs tell you everything 1.09 ltr tank capacity. Its a hand held spot cleaner only.

            • @BigBucko: Thanks mate :D

My wife says, we should buy new sofas and carpet 😂

I was trying to avoid that situation. It's only been 4 years and a bunch of kids.

              • @sqheaven: Carpet is not cheap these days, then again nothing is ! You could get away with the sofa maybe with this Bissell, take time. Just buy a reasonable upholstery cleaning detergent, water it down a bit. Spray on but then use like a horse hair brush to rub it all in not missing spots. Any hard spots believe or not but could try windex and rub in (don't leave on to long). Grease marks do same with very very mild warm soap (washing up liquid) liquid in spray bottle rub in but don't leave to long before extraction.

The key to cleaning is the extraction, with machine like this you need to extract probably several time over one section then dry stroke several times over the same spot.

As for carpet, wanna save money go the Britex way but don't buy there stuff go get a 5ltr from Bunnings, be around same price at a guess. Again the quality waht you get is the time you put in.

Failing then get a professional in who is recommend…shop around.

            • -1

@BigBucko: thanks - sounds like you might be a good workman - if so, well done!

And yes first-time DIYers with hire Britex probably often leave the carpet too wet - until they work out the suction is the other important step.

but 'you get what you pay for' is a phrase popular with spruikers of overpriced goods and services designed to appeal to those who imagine that higher price automatically means higher quality - "sorry I crashed the Lamborghini Daddy .. [blink blink] … "can I have a purple one next time ?"

    • That’s a tough one to answer. It only does a small area at a time so would take forever to do a whole big room.

  • Will these work better than a cheaper and more powerful wet/dry vacuum?

    • +9

IME no. These are basically just a small wet vac with a powered "water pistol" to spray the cleaning solution. You can do the same with a spray bottle and vac. I got this earlier in the year thinking that the water was automatically and continually sprayed and sucked up like a traditional steam cleaner but no. I regret my purchase - it will be used but it's just another gadget I could have done without.

      • I get black spots out of our light coloured carpet with a bowl of hot water and a sponge, also a spray bottle with water and diluted detergent - maybe spray the diluted detergent first, let it sit for a little, maybe scratch it back and forth with my fingernail to work it in, then use a sponge repeatedly dipping in the hot water bowl and/or squeezing it out to repeatedly apply hot water and soak it up - until all the stain is gone - typically about 20 seconds of work per spot.

  • Are these good for lounges?

    • If take time you may be able to. Hard work but would say possible.

    • I have successfully used it on my old Italian lounge which has a suede type material. Test in a small spot first and wait for it to dry and decide what you think.

  • Well I might get one as the Kmart one is sold out!

    • Which one is the Kmart model

      • It’s just their own brand spot cleaner. It’s been out of stock for ages because people are raving about it

  • thanks op. was looking into vax spotwash but decided to go for this one due to the price

  • +2

Ahhh HN rejected my purchase for some unknown reason :/ My information was correct and no issue with my card, so strange.

"Thanks for placing your order with us. However after careful review, we have decided to not accept your order. We apologise for any inconvenience."

    • +1

Sorry to hear that. Its a shame, you got them so much business but weren't able to purchase one. I just got a message saying it was ready for pick up meself.
      Give it another go?

      • Awesome you were able to get one :) I think I will leave it, not worth the hassle having to exchange emails back and forth just to get a refund.

  • Thanks OP. Got one.

  • Thanks op! Just what was looking for

  • How do these go at cleaning mattresses?

    • +7

      Come again?

      • +4

Definatley dont do that, it will just get messier.

    • +2

Because they are so thick and spongy compared to a carpet I think they would be the least successful thing to clean. If you’re not afraid of chemicals I have used bleach in a spray bottle successfully then suck the excess liquid out with the Bissell and leave it to dry completely.

      • Chlorine bleach or sodium precarbonate (Napisan) ?

        • Chlorine bleach

  • +2

Anyone got a Vax One instead for any insight?

    • Keen to hear how they compare as well. I grabbed Vax in BF sales (haven’t used it yet) but heard good things which is why I went for that over the Bissell.

      • I think I saw a previous comment about the Vax maybe being better, but that's when both were $160. I think this at $100 is probably ok.

  • just got a back order email, how likely is it going to be cancelled?

    • makes sense their website was playing up, showing in stock then out of stock, then back in stock. I also ordered one but don't know likelihood of pickup.

  • Ah perfect boxing day score! thanks OP!

  • I just got this.

Your order is currently delayed. It is estimated to be ready within two weeks. You’ll receive an update as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Order number: xxxxxxxxxxx Issue date: 25/12/2023

    • wasn't deal posted today? you order date is yesterday unless your in a different time zone?

      • Ordered this morning. 26/12

    • Received same email. Ordered this morning

  • Grabbed one, thanks OP :)

What's the difference between the red, orange, purple models?

    • I think its the head attachment that comes with it. This one (Red) looks to be narrower where as the others are a bit wider. One particular attachment comes with a 3 in 1 head to cater for different angles and shapes.

    • I was thinking the same thing. Different attachments and warranty length

      https://www.bowdensown.com.au/guides/how-to-use-our-car-care…

      • Yea saw that myself after I posted. Thanks.

  • OOS? For me it's throwing a red popup 'the requested qty is not available' when I click add to cart.

  • Unable to add to cart, OOS?

  • Ozbargained

The requested qty is not available

  • Got one and already ready for pickup.

Ordered the Kmart one a few weeks ago and they cancelled it so happy with this being the same price.

  • Also got the delayed email

  • Dang missed this. Hope it comes back

  • Missed out!

  • Good find op but dam I missed it

  • +1

Quite surprised no one said anything about greedy Gerry now that the price is right!

  • Thanks, OP!

Ordered this morning and collected a few moments ago.

Worked really well to remove make-up which was somehow smeared into our 7 year old daughters bedroom carpet a few weeks ago.

Used the supplied carpet cleaner sample for the first wash and then regular dishwashing liquid the second time.
Didn't really notice a difference in cleaning between the two.

    • You use dishwashing liquid? Is it safe/recommended? Doesn’t it produce lots of bubbles? Lol

      • Yeah it did get a bit bubbly so I only used a drop or two the next time around.
Worked to remove some really stubborn stains, but probably not good to use longer term.

    • Try wool clothes wash

  • I've got one of these. It doesn't seem like there's much suction but when you look at the dirty water filling the tank you know it's doing pretty well.

  • Know it says out of stock but worth checking your local - just grabbed one from bondi junction and there’s at least 2 still left on the floor

  • I have one of these. My verdict? Good for spills, but really hard work to clean even a 2.5 seater couch. The suction is also not powerful enough so you get stains down the side of the couch where the dirty water has "dripped down" due to gravity. The Bissell chemicals are also expensive and you fly though the sample bottle they give you with the purchase. I now use Rug Doctor solution from Bunnings (You need a built in Anti foamer) way cheaper!

    • Personally I don't find the chemical/solution expensive. $17 a bottle at JB Hi-Fi, can be used 15 times (Bissell recommends 30ml per tank of clean water).
I managed to get the solution down to $11 via some price match so it's less than $1 per clean for me

      • Cheaper through the good guys commercials
