Just ordered. Great price for a powerful Zen 4 processor with a good sized battery and good quality screen.

Only trade off is no fingerprint reader, average speaker quality, slightly odd keyboard and some minor chassis flex that you don't get with more premium models.

Other models, such as Lenovo P14s/T14, Asus Zenbook 14 etc. all have other tradeoffs.

One of many reviews here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48tEhuqrL2Y

There's a deal on Acer Swift Go which also includes two 40Gbps USB 4.0 ports. This system has no USB4.0 ports.
    Acer Swift Go R7-7840U, 16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD, R780M, 14" 2.9K OLED 400nits 90Hz $1197 + Del ($0 to Metro/C&C) @ Officeworks

  • Acer spec is good on the paper. Though i am a bit concerned with reviews that mention bad build quality. Anyone has experience with this? Trying to choose beetween this one or wait for Asus zenbook deals

    • I think the Acer only has a 50WH battery. This and the build quality are the trade offs mentioned in the reviews.

I was thinking about waiting for the Zenbook, but I’ve seen early videos on 14th gen intels and no mention of Zen 4s.

It could take 6 months before they hit the shelves (if they do at all) and then another 6 months before we see a decent sale.

I haven't held the Pavillion but I believe it has an aluminium chassis.

Given the significant price difference, I went to OW to check out the Swift Go 14. For context, my current laptop is an employer-supplied MBP Air M1 and Im in the market for my own personal laptop. "Luxuriousness" isn't a top priority for me when it comes to laptops (I was for the most part very satisifed with the chassis and finish of my previous laptop, a Ryzen 4700U Asus VivoBook 15). But IMO, the finish of the Swift 14 is among the least satisfying in the hand.

The chassis appears to be made of plastic, coated in a rough aluminium paint that is slightly glossy and doesn't do it any favours. It looks and feels incredibly cheap; more so than some of the $300-$400 Chromebooks on display. I also didn't like its boxy shape. Despite the agressively competitive configuration, it immediately struck me as a device I wouldn't likely buy at any price. YMMV.
