The Brita has a bit more activated carbon granules (that is what traps the impurities ) and the others have more white granules of who knows what .
pretty much the same since neither filter much of anything. i switched to zero water. i used the zero water tester it comes with on the brita filter and it is still pretty close to the high score of the tap water. zero water gave me an obvious 0.0 reading. i love the tester, i started testing it on all water everywhere at home, work, hotels, etc… lol

We've started using cheaper Philips Micro X-Clean (9 for $49) as alternative to the Brita cartridge.. seems to be doing a good job as far as I can tell.

Perhaps you meant 6 pack (it currently shows $49)? In which case it's roughly equivalent to Brita pricing on special.

You can get compatible filters from K Mart for $15 for a pack of 3 (i.e. $5 each)
