Not sure why it hasnt been posted yet (maybe someone will tell me)

Maybe just me but the thought of wasting 40 batteries into our landfills make me cringe these days ….
but then again I'm burning copious amounts of fossil fuels recharging my eneloops :S
the impact from charging those eneloops 1000s of times is negligible compared to using and disposing these one-use batteries.
Awwww don't spoil it for me! I'm just getting charged up!
Just curious, are there any reasons to be buying these?
NiCd although slightly toxic are a much better alternative and provide good constant voltage. Are you guys using portable radios in which case 1.5v would provide a stronger signal? In which case you would probably go for NiZn batteries which are rated at 1.6v.
Then there are the old rechargable alkalines 1.5v which are prone to leakage. Wouldn't recommend those at all for your gadgets.
Disclaimer: I use AA NiZn batteries in my Cree Q5 light.

(assuming quality is comparable)I'd take Duracell over Varta any time. I've bought Varta AA Alkaline from Bunnings before and they last half as much as Duracell. They may have been a bad batch, but I'm staying away from them.
Fake?
