Seems like a good price for these types of monitors. But I'm confused as to what the purpose of a 4K display at this size is; other than "more pixels must equal better!"

27" at 1440p is the pixel density sweet spot, and the difference in gaming fidelity for resolutions any higher on this screen size is absolutely negligible compared to the significant increase in hardware resources it takes to operate at. I have tried it, and returned it after a month.

To put it in to perspective, if you wanted a 4K monitor BUT at the around same pixel density as a 27" 1440p, the monitor would need to be 41". All that sweet potential real estate goes to waste at any smaller pixel density.

    • Was thinking the same thing. I've been running first gen MG279Q's (1440, 144hz, IPS) since they first released in 2015 and have been looking at upgrading. I cant imagine shifting to 4k on the same size monitor and needing to worry about scaling text and UI's for essentially zero benefit.

    • Good for PS5/XSX, for savages like me that console game at a desk..

      • if console and 4k id prefer a bigger screen than 27~28" so you can recline further back and relax with the controller.

        • If you’ve got a comfy office chair and your sitting at a desk like 50cm away from your monitor 27 inches is fine… 32 probably better… if I want to relax and chill, I can play on my 65 inch telly but that’s not always an option for hard working Aussie dads.

          • @Sidog: yeah was thinking 32" would be the sweet spot for reclining at a desk. if sitting upright like a mouse and keyboard 27". also playing games on a console isn't exactly hard working now is it…

    • Ive used a 60hz 4K alongside a 165hz 2K for coding, both 27 inches. I liked the higher refresh rate on one as much as the better crispness text on the other. Definitely want both. For games though would agree it’s not worth it. My ideal for office use would be 5k 28 inch 144hz+

      • if I need multi monitor for work now id consider something like this instead.

I feel like a better option is to save (plus abit more) and wait for a 1440p 27" OLED monitor high refresh rate monitor if you're looking to go all out for gaming. Would probably look way nicer and less demanding than a 4k IPS monitor.

    • Yeah but costs twice as much

Been after a 4K, >60Hz 28"+ monitor for a while, for CAD work mostly. I've had my eye on this one and the M28U, but they have been sitting at the $1000 mark. This is a very good price! I just put in an order. PCCG has them at this price too (check staticice for more).

Looks like a couple of retailers are either low quantity or sold out so I jumped on it.

Reviews are good, there are some downsides of the monitor but I don't think they are major points. Sounds like general picture quality and motion is very good. The Toms Hardware review was glowing.

    • I second that, was looking for a 4k monitor in this size (mostly for work, gaming a nice extra) so eventually decided the high refresh rates weren't a sensible price and got a somewhat cheaper Dell during their sale earlier this year. I'd have considered this instead if it was available at this price.

      • Actually don't think my current graphics chip could handle faster refresh speed at 4k, but I'd rather have a monitor that's good for a few generations of computers

Yeah you tend up upgrade the PC but monitors hang around.

I have a Samsung UR55 4K 60Hz monitor already, which I’ve been very happy with, but I once saw a high refresh rate one at Scorptec and it was beautiful to use. I’ll have two set up now which I need for work.

    • Why not go 32"? Maybe the LG that's on special. If it's too big, just set it a bit further back on your desk.

  • Im a big fan of 28" 4k monitors. Means I can run 3x in a row without being painful wide with a centre focus monitor for games. Triple 32" is terribly wide.

  • Of course BPC oversells then gives me options of shittier alternatives…
