  • I bought this from Strathfield eBay with 8% off which reduces this price down $62.

Installed it yesterday into a 2019 MUX.

    • Tell me you are happy with your purchase. Seems to have all the specs and was a good price but I don't know much at all about car audio.

Edit: And you should have posted the bargain up!

The screen is huge and really fills in the dashboard which I wanted. Google maps looks great due to the size, wireless android auto just worked as soon as I synced my bluetooth. But really haven't used it much apart from driving to Woolies. The mic is super clear when making calls, much better then my old Sony Android auto unit that's in my older car.

I haven't played with any colour settings yet but the blacks aren't as dark as I have a seen on new Toyota head units. But it could be just a setting.

Definitely don't regret the purchase. Sonys 9" unit doesn't even have wireless for a similar price so going the Pioneer was a no brainer.

    • What other bits did you need for the install?

      • Bought these from Automotive Superstore. I received a 10% code which brought it down even further with free shipping. These were mostly specific for a MUX 2019 install.

Omg how much did this all cost. Canbus decoder?

          • @Korban Dallas: No canbus. I think it all cost $215 but that included a Dual USB port to fill a blank at the bottom of the dashboard.

how much did this all cost

Installers charge $250 for the harness kit which doesn't include steering wheel kit, camera harness plus accessories that are always needed.
Add to that ~$150 for the installation of the main unit plus ~$150 for the installation of each pair of speakers plus you pay 30-50% more for the head unit compared to what you can buy online.
I nearly saved $1,000 by doing the job myself: head unit, 2 pairs of speakers, under seat subwoofer.

  • I'm looking for a head unit with a larger screen for my '04 wrx, but I'm wondering if this would be overkill at 9". I've seen a lot of double din units (6.8" screens) and the flush fitment is nice, but a huge screen is tempting.

  • what are some good chinese brands with a single din pop out screen?

    • I’ve installed 4 Hikity units from eBay over the last couple of years and all are working well with reverse cameras also. Only thing I would suggest is installing an external mic otherwise they are great, and I modified the config so that wireless Apple CarPlay auto launches at startup (default settings passcode = 8888).

Bought the slightly higher spec devices with 2GB RAM / 32GB ROM, all cost between $100-200 depending on the car model OEM equipment bundle using eBay site wide discount codes.

    • From what I've read, always go for higher spec units if going from AliExpress or the like. More RAM and faster CPU. The Aerpro facia kits with head unit that are about $1000 are just a Chinese rebranded units for about $400. But for $400 you're getting the much faster CPU and more ram unit.

I've seen first hand the bad experience with the cheap units and was happy for something that will work 100% of the time.

  • Stick a Boom 3 in your cup holder and save.

  • Can anyone recommend a reverse camera to pair with this?

    • +2

You can consider a Pioneer RCAMAVIC reverse camera. It has a special power wiring so that it is always on when the engine is running. In the Pioneer receiver, you can review camera footage, or make adjustments to the parking guiding lines without having to use the reverse gear.

Other reverse camera only turns on when you are in reverse gear. Each to their own

      • Thanks. That model is on sale at autobarn also ($69.95) Hopefully I won't be slugged extra to install it when they install the headunit.

  • Any instruction videos or links on how to install these in slightly older (like 12 year old) cars?

    • how to install these in slightly older (like 12 year old) cars

There is no magic wand nor a standard rule, you start by telling what is your car, what is your budget and what do you expect from this upgrade.

      • Nissan Dualis, has a an old disc player with AUX-In and Bluetooth (phone only). Was thinking if I could install something like this to have a newer interface for my old car.

        • if I could install something like this

Since I can't see your head unit and you didn't show a picture I looked on Youtube so start from there.
It suggests your car needs a 7" head unit so this Pioneer is too big.
Again you need to choose based on your budget and your preferences, do you want a brand or a non brand head unit?
I suggest Kenwood for many reasons and I already did my research.

      • Correct answer. To install it in my car the Facia and harnesses, patch leads etc all add up.
