Setting up Meta Quest 3 and Referral

On Xmas day and after it daughter will be trying out her quest 3.
It was mentioned that before setting it up or after setting it up that to do the referral and get $47.

What is the process of this obviously I will need to open her device and set it up and then post on here what?

Just so I’m not confused on the day or do it wrong I need to know the process.
It was also mentioned about referral off games I can’t remember if this was a one off or for each game money off.

Obviously it be good for her to try out demo games and free games to start with.
I will see how she feels with head set as not hot a replacement yet.

But by sounds I may have to spend out more to make it more comfortable for her which is a joke really as meta must know the orginal strap is crap and should upgrade as standard.

It’s just the setting up and getting the referral part done right so I can possibly use it for a new or towards a new game.

I’ve never had a problem with the quest 2 strap. If you told me there was a more comfortable one that’s fine but the original isn’t uncomfortable

You should read up on adult accounts, child accounts and app sharing and decide what type of account/s you want on the device.
It may depend on her age, what level of control you want over what apps she uses, if anyone else is going to use it as well or if its fully hers, if anyone else has a quest or will get one and they are likely to share apps or have very different taste in games. You can put multiple accounts on a headset and then many apps allow app sharing between accounts (not all do though). Pretty popular for kids seems to be an adult admin account with a child secondary account.

Only the first account to get set up on the device will receive the referral credit so that is why you will need to decide if the first account to log in is going to be an account in your name or hers.

Meta has a bunch of articles on it e.g.

    https://www.meta.com/en-gb/help/quest/articles/accounts/acco…

    https://www.meta.com/en-gb/help/quest/articles/accounts/mult…

    https://www.meta.com/en-gb/help/quest/articles/accounts/mult…

I've seen some posts on reddit of how to set up multiple quests in a house with multiple kids, to maximise app sharing, as i think there are some limits, not something I know about myself though so you should search more on that.

To use a referral go to this page https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/meta.com Click 'random' and you get a random ozbargainers referral link. Don’t click accept on a link until you are ready to use it, youll see the fine print there about having to do it within a certain timeframe to get the credit.

After you accept the referral it will ask you to set up a meta account. This is the account that will get the credit so whoever you want to get the credit should be the one to set up first.

The game referrals are here at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/referral/oculus They offer a 25% discount off games. You can't use them when a game is on sale, which is frustrating at times when a sale isn't very good and you have to wait till it is over till it will let you use the better referral discount. These links also expire 7 days after you accept them, so don't click accept until you are ready to purchase a game, as if you don’t make a purchase in the time limit you wont get the discount.

    • Yes almost 12 yrs old and I’m sure she can play most stuff and probably set up in her name as down the line I may grab one if on offer.

So basically I can do request referral anytime it’s don’t do anything with it and you say once I set up the account or set up the device then accept it?
Probably easy enough but don’t want to get it wrong at what point to I accept the referral once account is set up and.

Don't set up the headset first. Accept the referral first, it will ask you to set up an account as part of accepting the referral.

Then set up the headset after that, it will ask you to log in, and log in with the account you used to accept the referral.

If she is only 11, i dont think you actually have a choice, for anyone under 13 i think they are required to have an adult account attached first. Probably best to go read more on that.

  • Do you talk the same way you type?

    • Yes all in one breath

  • So I was thinking of setting up accounts for 11 yr old daughter for q3 no restrictions as she is not silly but I was thinking she might not know she is purchasing apps.
She is to get a free game with it and I will check it out but I’m sure she be ok to use it.

But maybe I will want to know what she is up to and don’t want to restrict her to much, and mum or dad might want a go now and again more so me to se if it’s something I buy into if a price drop or I just fancy one.

I was just going to use her name but my date of birth and my email I take that’s maybe not a good idea? As be good to have her name shown when playing if that’s how it works.
Or does it need to be all dad’s details?
Do we have control over what she gets yon it and can she have anything if we agree? But I’m not sure if needs to be my name or ok with her one.

    I noticed this.
Approve or deny the downloading, purchase, or usage of any app
View all the apps your child owns
Manage and view time spent in VR
Set time limits and schedule breaks
    Manage account and privacy settings

Obviously I need to to do retarral and get her the sign up credit to get her some possible games.

I just don’t want to set it up and I can’t set up my own later when I get one but then it’s email related not Facebook like it used to be.
