UPDATED: Help Me Find a BBQ (On the cheaper side) Take 2

So I thought it would be a good idea to pull out the trusty (neglected) BBQ only to find it is absolutely, verge collection worthy.

So my question is what BBQ should I get and where from? I kinda need it for tomorrow.

Willing to spend up to $500.
Must have a lid as I want to cook roasts and sides in it.
Pick up in Perth.

So we purchased a Masport Elite 4 burner BBQ with hood. We were very happy with our purchase however, we found out it was damaged just before we had finished putting it together.

As it was damaged, we returned it for a replacement. Quite a simple process.

Set the second one up.

All was great until 10 minutes before serving Christmas lunch. An almighty bang and what do you know? The glass from the hood imploded all over our food.

So, back yo square one in my quest for buying a BBQ.

Any suggestions?
I just want a bloomin barbie that won't implode on us and will cook a good feed. We liked thee enamel plate the other one had so I guess that would be a bonus.

  • Gumtree.

    • really? but what kind?

$500 new with a warranty means you're going to be exactly here in a couple years time:

So I thought it would be a good idea to pull out the trusty (neglected) BBQ only to find it is absolutely,

So get a secondhand Weber off Gumtree or similar for 200-800 depending on how big you want it. It'll have a lid. It won't have a warranty, and probably won't need one.

BBQs are about as simple a machine as you could possibly make, needing a warranty on a BBQ is probably a sign that there's something fundamentally wrong with how it was made in the first place.

        • Wouldn't know what to look for and if it works.

@angywoo: It's a BBQ. If is not a pile of rust, if it turns on and gets hot, it works.

I went through this a couple months ago… I have never owned a BBQ in my life, and now I have a BBQ. It was really, really simple.

Honestly, I'd be more sure of buying a secondhand BBQ than I would something like a secondhand sofa, because you cal literally see all the parts.

          • @angywoo: If it's not rusted it probably works. If you can connect a gas bottle to it and fire it up, it definitely works.

Main thing I'd look for is any rust underneath or anywhere related to where gas goes. The rest of it is a lump of metal to conduct heat to food or seal in heat. Anything else just involves cleaning.

      • One that you like.

  • Apart from a lid, zero info
    Number of people to start.

Weber Q, pick the size that suits the budget, either new or used.

  • what i do usually, instead of asking too quick.
search of the product you want on that search bar top right corner.
you see the stores which people have posted in the past and the prices and the models, etc

yes they may be expired. no problem

go to each stores that has the product you like, and check maybe the price now is even lower!
if you find lower price or same or even better product at bargain price, then buy first, then post it to help others - this is important dont post first you may end up with sharing and the item sold out HAHA

unfortunately don't have the time to go to different stores. I didn't count on needing to get a new one.

Holy reading comprehension, they are telling you to use the ozbargain search function.

  • Hard rubbish is where I get mine. Wheel it home and give it a good clean up. Upgrade in a few years time when it rusts out and you find a better one. They often come with an almost full bottle of gas as well.

    • I need one for tomorrow thats why I am happy to buy.

Less than $500. With multi-year warranty and available as long as the shop is open.

Or go to Bunnings and get something much flimsier.

But as someone else has said, you haven't provided much info to go on.

        Questions:
        How many people
        Do you need it portable
Do you have a table for it to go on or do you need a cart
LPG or do you have a gas mains outlet

In the absence of any info, you're going to get incredibly vague answers.

  • Webber Med/Large could easily get them both off Marketplace under $500. I got a baby Weber used 10 times for $150 it looked brand new. Wouldn't worry about warranty on a bbq if it's kept clean and put away after cooking ie not left out in the rain etc or get a good cover.
