  I second KVB too. Other money changers on George St had rates of 1.21, 1.16 but KVB gave 1.25. This was for buying NZD. If you spend above $2000, you don't have to pay the $10 transaction fee. (check if its $2000, i'm not 100% sure)

I find that for small amounts the lowest overall cost is at smaller banks where the flat fees are lowest.
