Currently watching Pantheon on my Kogan F800 projector that I bought for $300 in 2020, and I just purchased this projector…that was the most impulse, impulse buy I have ever done.
The most impulse, impulse buy you have ever done.. so far
Just a silly question , but can these projectors pointing directly to the ceiling as I want to lay down and watch movie.
This one has the ports at the back so you'll have to find a way to prop it up.
Seems like it comes with a tripod, will get one and see if it can move up facing the ceiling, good thing with Amazon is I can always return if it’s not what I expect
It's hard to balance the noise of running one of these cheap projectors next to your head, throw distance and compensating for the angle after having to move it further away from your head cos it's too loud
@sandbank0825: Thanks for the advice, I decided to cancel, there are certain type of projector that can rotate is what I looking for
always want to try these projector, but i am not sure which one to start with. to me they look same with different brands.
Honestly maybe I'm out of touch with the projector market, but you cannot go wrong for $92 and native 1080p. Just expect it to require a dark room.
I'm assuming this is not actually native 1080p?
This is actually listed as 1080p native (4K supported). They have another cheaper version which is 1080P Supported and not native 1080p
Yeah but the common theme with these cheap Projectors is that they say Native 1080p but it's not usually the case and someone usually debunks that in the comments (Which I have yet to see, surprisingly).
Based on other Xuanpad listings on here it seems they have a habit of doing it.
In my experience they usually say "1080p supported" as their scam tactic. Native typically means native, but I wouldn't put it past companies to lie.
We'll find out on Sunday. Fingers crossed.
And deal expired.
RIP, missed by 5 minutes
Got one
Got my order delivered just now.
Here's a quick and dirty review, based on ~10 mins of testing:
- Whoever designed the mechanical keystone adjustment needs to promptly take a long walk off a short pier. It makes it so that if you adjust the focus perfectly for the top half of the screen, it f***s up the focus on the bottom half, and vice versa. It'd be better if it just wasn't there at all.
- The software keystone adjustment' fine, though.
- Decent brightness even in a room where there's a lot of light leaking in from the morning sun.
- The fan's quite noisy.
- The input lag seems surprisingly good.
- However, the projector seems to struggle with 60fps contents (based on Splatoon 3).
Need to head out, so I can't test it now, but I'm assuming it should probably be okay with 30fps contents.
Got back home, did some more testing, and here's my conclusion:
Despite the seemingly good input lag (no super obvious delay between pressing a button and something happening on "screen"), this projector is unfortunately just not very suitable for gaming in general.
- In both 60fps games (e.g. Splatoon 3) and 30fps games (e.g. Monster Hunter Rise), there's quite a bit of very noticable stuttering.
- Connecting my computer to the projector, I see the same issue when trying to play any games with sudden player-controlled movements.
- Eye-balling it using a 60fps test video (this one specifically), I think it was skipping 1 or 2 notches every 15~20 frames.
- For most video contents (including 60fps gameplay videos), the stuttering/frame skipping was subtle enough to not be too badly obvious, but gaming on it for anything other than maybe 2D turn-based games is probably a lost cause.
On the plus side, I did get this for less than $92, and the packaging also includes a cloth projector screen (I haven't taken that out, so I have no idea know how big it is).
Bringing expectations back to a more realistic level, especially for the price, if you want something you can just easily set up and plop down in a guest bedroom to start up some movies for the kids, this is an affordable option. I do believe they are at least telling the truth about it being native 1080p too, at least.
Cheers for your thoughts! I have done a considerable amount of testing today and have some similar conclusions.
- Fan noise is loud like a lot of other cheap projectors. As loud as my Kogan F800, but feels louder because the pitch is slightly higher.
- Brightness is decent, but not suitable for "good" day time use. Very good at night or with decent blinds.
- Keystone is like all other cheap projector keystone: Avoid using it! The only way to get the entire image into focus is to keep the keystone in the middle, so you will have to make sure you can keep the projector parallel/square to the wall you are projecting it onto.
- My unit seems to have pretty poor colours out of the box. Very heavy on the greens, and made Avatar 2 look like a video game. I spent a lot of time trying to fine tune it, but found it hard to find the perfect balance. Green often was either too much or too little. In the end I'm quite happy with what I have come up with, I have shared the setting below.
- My brother noticed some micro stuttering every now and then, I couldn't really tell to be honest, but this is inline with what pj1351 has said.
- The throw size was 3110mm corner to corner diagonally (~123") from 3650mm away.
- Focus appears to be pretty solid on my one, does not appear to have god rays coming off contrasting images near the edges, something that is quite bad on my Kogan F800.
- Unit was smaller than I was expecting to be honest. About half the size of my F800.
- Brightness: Interesting results, visually they are both very close to each other. I can't really tell because the throw of the XuanPad is bigger but perhaps the F800 is very slightly brighter. However, the F800 draws 133W while the XuanPad draws only 83W. This 50W difference is pretty significant so I'm not exactly sure where that extra power is going, considering the F800 is barebones while the XuanPad has the wifi and bluetooth stuff too.
- Haven't tested the wifi and bluetooth stuff because I don't really care for it.
I think that is about all I can think of, 100% very worth it for $92, I like the bigger throw and the smaller size TBH but I don't think I will be swapping out my F800 for it. This will make a good gift.
Better Colour Settings
Feel free to use these as a starting point, I'm not a colour expert and these are not objectively the best or whatever but seem way more natural to my eyes.
Brightness: 60
Contrast: 55
Saturation: 35
Sharpness: 10Red: 10
Green: -20
Blue: -20
Regarding the fan noise, how loud is it really? Is it distracting if it's placed about 3 feet away from you? Any chance of sharing a video of how loud it is?
I have been waiting on the sideline for a while now for a native 1080p projector under $100, the excessive fan noise seems to be a common trait with these cheap projectors but I'm just wondering how loud it actually is
Thanks OP. Got one.
