Hi there all, a family member has a 6s plus that recently was unable to make or recieve calls. After calling lebara (the phone company they are with (vodaphone line)) support said it was because this passing friday they shut down all their 3g reliant devices. However after checking the list the 6s plus is not on the most affected devices list they published, support told me to enable VOLTE however in settings all that pops up is 3g and 4g. Has anyone else had any issues?

Does my iphone 6s support 4g? > Yes. The iPhone 6S supports 4G LTE
First released- September 25, 2015; 8 years ago < Maybe time for an upgrade? Look at an iPhone 13 which supports 5G.
Did they also disregard all the emails of them telling your family friend..
all the companies are, and honestly wtf are you still doing on 3G where this becomes an issue? 4G is even old, 5G is the standard, and 6G is going to be rolling out soon.
From memory, a lot of rural areas don't have great 4G reception still, though I'm assuming that shutting down 3G will allow more 4G antennas to go up at the same time or just after the shutdown.
This. However, the plan for many telcos is to use their 3G Spectrum for 5G. So it would mean that instead of more 4G Antennas going up, it would be 5G.
Yeah that makes sense, I always thought that 5G had a much smaller coverage, so you'd need more 5G antennas around the pace to cover the same distance as 4G.
Or is it that more the case in built up areas as it doesn't travel through objects as well?
@richadam: Its because the frequencies used to date for 5G are in the 3500MHz range, High Frequency, lower range, (just like when you can hear the Bass from a neighborhood party, but none of the Treble.)
When the lower 3G frequencies are re-allocated (especially Telstra's 850MHz), range of 5G will match that of the 3G network.

Not every 3G device is as disposable as a phone!
While I agree that it's a good time to update old phones, for other devices, this is not as easy.
Apple may be able to help. Worth trying anyway. I found that their phone support for my parent was very good. Better than I would've ever expected from Samsung for sure. Otherwise just buy a refurbed iPhone for a few hundred. Coles and other retailers often have them on special.
This was something that was poorly reported.
It isn't just 3G phones that are affected by the 3G networks shutting down. It also affects early 4G phones that used 4G for data, but still used 3G for voice calls.
If you've got an early 4G phone that allows VoLTE, turn it on. If you've got an early 4G phone that doesn't its time to replace it.
It also affects VoLTE capable phones that don't have the correct software support for the carrier.
ie my JB HiFi Xiaomi Mi 9T. VoLTE worked out of the box on Telstra, but after a software update it stopped working and hasn't worked since.I recently moved my service from Boost (Telstra) to CatchConnect (Optus), and now have both VoLTE and VoWiFi operational.
It also affects VoLTE capable phones that don't have the correct software support for the carrier.
This as well.
My Dad has a Huawei p20 lite that is supposed to support VoLTE, but we couldn't get it running. Oh well. Scooped the Moto g54 for $200 deal. Xmas pressie sorted to boot!
turn VoLTE on eg:-
https://deviceguides.vodafone.co.uk/apple/iphone-6s-ios-9-0/…If that is not appearing make sure phone is updated with latest firmware/carrier settings, try reboot reset network settings etc.
if still not working try to update the ios to the latest version supported
Yeah kinda just gave up , on latest version etc.
Time for an upgrade then. Boxing Day Sales should have some good specials.
Enable 4G?
