Shokz OpenComm2 UC (USB-A/USB-C Adapter) $255.20 (20% off RRP, $245.20 with Coupon Code) Delivered @ Crooze

110
WEL-CR-302

This is the lowest price I've seen for UC2 since I started eyeing this a few weeks ago.

USB C variant (same price) here: https://crooze.com.au/products/shokz-opencomm-2-uc-usb-c-ada…

Using the coupon code WEL-CR-302 seems to knock another $10 off the discounted price.

Sounds like a Battlemech Bitchin' Betty when you turn it on.

"Welcome to Shokz. Battery high. Device one connected."

All that is missing is the "All systems nominal".

  • How is the microphone, comaring to Poly/Jabra‘s?

    • There’s no noise cancelling, stick with Poly/Jabra till they bring out something that cancels background noise

      • thanks

      • The OpenComm UC2 does have a dual noise cancelling boom mic https://shokz.com.au/products/opencomm2uc I believe that and a physical mute button (which works with Teams/Zoom to show mic status as muted in the app when using the USB Connector) are the two main differences between UC and UC2

        • I've had the O.G. OpenComm gen 1 for 2 years now and the mic from what i've heard for those on the receiving end of MS teams is that it's great even in noisy office environments. I take it the gen 2 would be somewhat better.
Noise cancelling from the s/w on MS teams has improved over the years too so that plays a part.

Definitely better with the boom mic than the regular openmove or shokz without a dedicated mic close to mouth. microphone around ears picks up all the background noise

        • And also the mic boom is on the right for OpenComm 2 and on the left for OpenComm 1. My hypothesis on why they switched it from left to right is because these headsets are popular for people who drive a lot for work and in the states they drive on the left side. So you can imagine when the window is down the mic probably gets a lot of the wind. So they switched it to the right. Though that’s just my guess… 😆

          • @YeboMate: Interesting hypothesis that I’m not necessarily disagreeing with, but I have to ask, when was the last time anyone (not in a convertible) drove with their window rolled down unless absolutely necessary :)

            • @cbrbargainer: I don't get this… what do you mean by absolutely necessary? I drive with my windows down (all 4) pretty much anytime I can. Only time I wouldn't is when it's raining or when the air is dusty or smoky. I see others with windows down often so I assume it's not the minority.

    • the mic is pretty good, check out this video

not sure in comparison to other brands tho

  • can it be used for gaming? fps like Warzone, Apex legends

    • I'll shatter your bone. Jokes

    • Lag and poor quality audio is not ideal for gaming

      • good to know, I was hoping the dongle might help with lag.

        • The dongle probably won’t. A lot of the times you’ll find that the office headsets with dongles the dongles is just a Bluetooth adapter with their own functions added on. Ultimately it’s still using Bluetooth which isn’t great for gaming.

Got one for work a while back and couldn’t imagine not having one anymore.

I use it connected to Bluetooth and works great. Super comfortable, light, all day battery and able to pick up calls without using my phone.

Main reason was to buy a better quality sounding headset that’s handfree as my AirPod pros mic was terrible for phone calls and meetings

    • +2

AirPods (reg or pro) are terrible for meetings in an office environment! It'll pick up all the chatter and noises in the background or Teams will cancel out 50% of the voice of our voice and no one can hear you properly

      • Yeah.. I never really thought about it until i heard someone else speak using airpods. You'd think the mic would be better for the money.

The office uses jabra headsets which are known for their quality however it's just too bulky and wired.

        • Yea that’s why I ended up buying this OpenComm 2 as it’s not big and bulky, it has a dedicated mic and sufficient noise cancelling (based on video reviews) and when you tuck the mic back it doesn’t look too bad. It also has the open design (being bone conduction) so I’m not completely isolated from my surroundings (which is important for me with young kids)

      • Agree really grinds my gears those people who use crappy earbuds on teams call while surrounded by others. Usually the same people who don't know how to put themselves on mute
