Hey OP the Nashville or Louisiana Style portions show as full price for me. Is it State specific? The Chicken Steak and Chicken Burger show as on special. That's for SA.

    • +2

      Just checked
All of the above show as 1/2 price for me here in Brisbane .

    • Same in WA. No Half price for me.

    • chicken steaks and burgers are half price for me.
Other two aren't stocked at my local store.

      I'm in nsw

Do the real chicken burgers still exist? The chicken burger here is essentially a big chicken nugget. The burgers used to be real whole chicken breast and I was disappointed to find it's not anymore.

    • +3

I have found that every frozen piece of chicken in the super market is some processed shite

      • Is there an ok version we can buy, even if it's not frozen and just in the fridge?

        • +9

          Yes - a chicken

          • @linkindan: The rotisserie chicken is ok but the flavour gets boring quickly. I need to learn how to spice it up a bit.

        • Yes, your local butcher. Ask them but chances are they've actually used a piece of chicken breast and not offcuts glued together with a flour paste.

Don't expect it to be as cheap as your frozen meat blob though lol. I mean the chicken burgers in this deal even have polenta in them for some reason.

.. or just grab a chicken breast and crumb it yourself

@Minimum chips: Chicken schinitty from colesworth is also a ginormous chicken nugget if you check ingredients list.

            • @Top G: I legitimately prefer the glutinous mashup style chicken to any type of proper breaded chicken. I must have the palate of an 8 year old…

          • @Minimum chips: That would be extremely processed?

          • @Minimum chips: Those things are disgusting meat paste formed into something that is supposed to resemble a shnitty.

              • @Minimum chips: https://www.coles.com.au/product/coles-deli-rspca-approved-c…

These things? They're a formed meat product, not just a nicely cut piece of breast.

                • @bonezAU: Huh. That is what I was thinking of, but you're right that it's chicken sawdust.

I have definitely had actual proper chicken breast ones from Coles (I used to bread chicken every day when I was a cook, I can tell the difference), but I haven't bought these in years.

I'll withdraw my previous comments, as they are misinformed.

                  • @Minimum chips: yeah they are pretty gross :)

I haven't seen proper chicken breast schnitties at Coles in a long time, the closest thing is maybe their chicken thigh "burgers" (which are pretty good, just overpriced). You find them in the meat section where all the processed chicken pops and crumbed wings etc are.

Just get chicken breast dice it up chuck whatever spices in you want and it'll normally taste good then throw it on a pan or in an air fryer and in a wrap and it'll taste better then Tegals, it really is super easy to make chicken taste good I just throw random amounts of herbs and spices in my marinate and hope it works lol

    • The crunchy variety here is made from chicken breast? Anyway there's still these which are chicken breast fillets.

    • Just buy some bulk breast and some breading/seasoning and coat it in a big bowl takes a few mins max and is easiest thing ever. Then just stick it in oven the same as these.

    • Yup the chicken burgers and chicken steaks from Tegel tarste pretty bad.The streggles ones are also processed, but still taste a lot better.

    • Yes. https://www.tegel.co.nz/products/tegel-take-outs-louisiana-s… at Woolworths or the spicy version at costco. These are chicken breast fillets not reprocessed.

  • Which is the spicier one of the chicken portions?

    • +1

Nashville is spicy (see top right corner of pack with the flame symbol). The Louisiana is mild.

  • +2

    Damn no tenders again

  • +11

FYI to Muslims, these are halal as well

    • What about Kosher?

      • +2

Heck yeah more chicken for me

        • -3

Yeah, all in the name of allah.

          • @RSmith: Halal is Arabic for permissible. Halal food is that which adheres to Islamic law, as defined in the Koran.

The Islamic form of slaughtering animals or poultry, dhabiha, involves killing through a cut to the jugular vein, carotid artery and windpipe.

Animals must be alive and healthy at the time of slaughter and all blood is drained from the carcass. During the process, a Muslim will recite a dedication, know as tasmiya or shahada.

Is it just me or is the thumbnail for this deal Defence Grig 2?

    • Fixed

I pack a grilled chicken steak, some sweet potato mash (cooked then chilled) and frozen green beans as a good work lunch. Fairly cost effective and tasty.

  • +1

I stopped buying the chicken portions. They're so oily.

Might try the chicken burgers again because I remember them being less oily. However, someone in this thread mentioned it's just a big chicken nugget.

  • +1

My Coles in SA says they are half price ?

    • Im in SA and bought them a couple of days ago at half price.

  • Statist b**tards

  • yep i only see burger ones? sad

  • -1

They are not worse than Macca, HJ, RR and KFC's junks.

    • +1

Yeah they honestly taste better then all the above

      • But they aren't that great, just better then fast food lol

        • How bad are they? I eat a lot of these chicken schnitzel type things, but usually buy the ones from the fridge rather than frozen. I think they taste better. I know there's a bit of oil and they're crumbed which isn't great, but I still feel for the taste, they aren't too unhealthy.

It's hard for me to find stuff that's easy to make that doesn't taste bad, or that isn't heaps unhealthy.

          • +2

@warmfruit: They taste alright, usually I find those ones from the fridge to be fairly bland if you're talking about the generic woolies and Cole's clear packed ones. These have seasoning in the batter at least but the portions will take a lot longer to cook, the crunch burgers are alright but by themselves they have no taste, but if you make your own burger out of it then it tastes better than a KFC burger cause their salads are shit. The tenders are my favourite definitely have the most breading and most taste, probably most similar to KFC in terms of double breading.

If you want something healthy to make though better off dicing up or buying diced chicken breast and marinating it or just chucking it in a spice and herb mix yourself. Normally takes like less then 10 minutes to prep and cooks faster then frozen tenders in the frying pan or air fryer. Within a month I was making healthy chicken wraps that tasted better than Nandos.

          • +1

@warmfruit: The prepacked stuff is still easier to make you end up with less dishes to do so I still eat it from time to time but you definitely save a decent amount doing it yourself

    • Nando's is better?

  • Finally some other variation. Thanks OP!

  • Read the back, it requires 60 min to warm up in the oven. Pass. Get a roast Coles chicken!
    .

    • what???? they take 10 minutes in an air fryer

      • Not according to the instructions on the back they don't.

        • we must be talking about different products, i am talking about the chicken burgers in the picture, you must be talking about the portions, they take a bit longer, 25 minutes in the air fryer(phillips xxl), dont follow the time guide, just cook to about 74 degrees celcius, even slightly under 74 because they will keep cooking

  • $9 in Melbourne and chicken burgers are now processed, they used to be real.

    • I'm in Melb and I just paid $7.

      • maybe its a wednesday special.

  • A butcher once told me it starts as meat then it's marinated then cleaned and crumbed , because crumbs hide everything !

  • The chicken portions have also changed from Aussie chicken to "Chicken from New Zealand". Are there that many chickens in New Zealand to supply Australia? Or are they chicken imported into NZ from somewhere else?

    • you sure? Tegal is a New Zealand brand, it always has been

        • so you already got free 50 ?I got mine cause I finish last week?

          • @rollinggirl: Yep got my 10k pts on 14th. Everyone should've all received. You got yours cuz you've done the past 4 weeks. And there's another promotion for the next 4 weeks. I'm gonna add a reminder to each week so I won't forget :)

  • why are they always not in discount when I buy them

    • Because you buy them when they are not on discount. Hand in your OzB card, please sir/ma'am

  • Tried both the Tegels Take Out Flame Grilled Chicken Steak & the Tegels Take Out Crunchy Chicken Burger and won't be buying them again. A seasoned sponge would taste on par with these and possibly have more flavor.
