    Ecco the Dolphin? i'm there

    bit of a strange collection

seems like none of the Daytona USA, Virtua Racing or racing type games or did they not turn up on genesis?

    • +3

Yes and no. Better ports of these games turned up on their later consoles. I don't recall ever seeing these on a Genesis/Mega Drive collection.

    • Virtua Racing came out for the Megadrive and considering the limits of the megadrive hardware compared to the Sega Model 1 arcade hardware, it was a decent port.

      • Didn't the Megadrive version of Virtua Racing require the 32X add on? Been a long, long time, I'm too old to remember clearly now :P Might explain why it's not here if their emulation doesn't support it?

    • Zoom zoom

    • Can confirm that Ecco is not on it unfortunately.

  • Total 58 old genesis games?

  • +7

FYI there is only a total of 7 PS4 games that don't run on PS5.

And don't buy this collection unless your tv has game mode that reduces input lag.

By default these games are pretty bad and unplayable on the difficult levels of Sonic and so.

    • Better on the switch? Or is there lag as well?

      • Switch is apparently a lot worse, but not sure if it got updated like the PS and Xbox versions.

        • Thanks, guess I will get it on the PS5 then

    • I've seen that list of 7 and there are more than that which won't work on PS5. I'm hugely pissed off that I can't play any of the PS4 PES games on PS5. Presumably Konami nobbled them to try and force me to play their F2P bullsh*t "eFootball" instead.

I wonder if maybe the disc versions would work but they just don't allow me to download my digital version to PS5? #(profanity)

      • Do you have multiple PSN accounts? Sounds like you are on an account that doesn’t own PES because it certainly downloads and certainly works on PS5.

        • No I only have one account. You're actually right, though. I just tried again after reading your comment. When I look it up (eFootball PES 2020) in my collection in the PS app where I usually search and download my games it won't let me download it (says "only playable on PS4). But I just went into my library on the console itself and it would let me download it there. Not sure if the issue is with the app or my account or what, but yeah I can download it directly from the console.

    $2.50 nintendo tax

there's some good games in there but its basically a game pack for boomers (I kid…)

    • +3

Boomers were the ones telling Gen X to get off the megadrive and go outside.

  • Thanks op :D

  • Good deal - for just under $10 it’s totally worth it

  • +2

Can anyone confirm this comes with Altered Beast?

    • +1

The Altered Beast character is part of the cover art so I would presume so..

      • I’ve prematurely presumed things like this before hence I thought I’d double check with someone who’s already bought it before I pull the trigger.

    • RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE! 🪦⚡️

    • AB confirmed. Power Up!

  • +2

Shining Force what an amazing game that was

  • +1

Less than 20 cents per game. Pretty good.

  • +1

I think when this was originally released it came with a vinyl soundtrack

  • FYI

PS4 version includes a PSVR mode as well.

Worth it for the Streets of Rage series alone!

  • +1

This is a must have for anyone who lived during the 16 bit console war era just by the game choices alone. Sega really handled this one with care with many awesome touches and additions such as the way you pick a game where it will show a virtual Sega cartridge box, taking it out, plugging it in a Megadrive/Genesis 1st gen console and showing it on a virtual crt tv. There are many emulation options also. I think this might be the best official retro UI ever, the second being the Capcom arcade and its choices of virtual Arcade machine

  • Shut up and take my upvote!! (Sega Kid ftw)

    • +1

A sega kid as well here

But gosh, I don’t know how many copies of these mega drive games I can continue to buy….sega should start emulating/ porting Saturn games rather than beating the mega out of the drive.

A compilation of Saturn games including panzer dragoon saga, fighters megamix and shining force 3 would be a sweet start.

  • Try and get the PC version if you can, as they are the easiest way so far to legally obtain Mega Drive ROMs, meaning you can use them in other emulators, decompilation projects and even full remakes that pull assets from the existing ROMs.

    • rofl, as if you would bother

      • I did bother, and because of that, I get to use these legally acquired ROM files in any emulator I want, as long as it can emulate MD, as well as an ever-growing collection of projects based on game decompilations, where I only need the ROM file for it to work.

  • It's really annoying that the Turkey virtual credit card is no longer usable. A workaround is to buy Microsoft XBox Turkey cards (but have to pay more for that). Currently, the Turkey version is about 36 TRY (inc. VAT, i.e. our GST equivalent) roughly $1.80 AUD. A rough conversion (if done through buying XBox Turkey 100 TRY card) is $3.25. Turkey VPN is required to redeem XBox Turkey card though.

  • Always makes me chuckle seeing people pay for emulators and roms
