Officeworks Online Order Cancelled - Refund to Gift Card Can Only Be Made in Store

My dad purchased an item online but his order was cancelled due to security flag, which is fine after he rang the customer service number and got the part payment on the credit card refunded.

However the gift card portion is not refundable and now he needs to drive 40 mins to the store to get it refunded in person as they can't refund the gift card portion online.

What a load of crap! So be careful when shopping using gift card online with Officeworks

Here is the email he received:

Hi

Thanks for contacting Officeworks.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel and refund your order ******** as it did not pass the online security verification checks.

Please visit any nearby Officeworks to get refund on your part of the order you have paid with Coles Myer Group Gift Cards worth $****.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    A lot of those companies cannot refund credit back , but what they can is to issue another gift card online. But as security is a concern (whatever it is), I guess turn up to to a store is a necesary to them.

      Yet if an old lady on a pension who bought something online for delivery, now needs to take 2 buses just to get to an officeworks 90 mins away just to have her gift card back…… it's ridiculous

          Yeah, retired old ladies have got more time than most people to actually do something like this. They could even take a thermos.

    • I call bs. Office works just has really crappy systems. Have you tried to print something at an Officeworks lately? Maddness.
      So the sales staff want the security issue in the store and then they'll suddenly do something about it? 🤣 A waste of time. Write a complaint on their SM page and see what they come back with. Ask them to post it to you.

      same thing happened to me …my son got a $1000 scholarship thing that the school had control over the funds so he wanted a ipad for $650 so the school did online click n collect with their credit card and it got flagged and cancelled even though the school said they use all the time at officeworks so had to wait for money to be returned and by then the ipad went back up in price but the school ended up getting the price honoured ..

        What's the issue then. You'd have to visit the store to pick it up anyway.

        • Issue is now the item is out of stock, because of the issue with the gift card refund, which wasted about 10 days plus the time to have his account cleared

    Make a formal complaint to OW about the problem, which is NOT via the phone. You will need to lookup on the OW web site on how to make a formal complaint.

    This should hopefully sort it out. If not then ring up the department in WA that looks after consumer issues and ask them what you should do next.

      I am only posting this so others aware about their online gift card cancellation and refund policy

    • Update 11/1: Officeworks has manually refunded me the full amount ($399) I paid via Giftcard through an EFT refund (BSB, Account Number).
