I'm on my 2nd one of these in the past year. After about 6 or so months, the space between the jug and lid starts to leak. So when pouring water, it'll start seeping through. It's such a pain and not getting a 3rd to test it.

Keen to hear other people's experiences, and alternatives.

Lots of reviews on amazon also saying the lid is not leak proof

    • Hmm I've had one for years in the family, we use it to make ice tea and things like that from time to time, haven't seen it leak that I'm aware of.

    • anyone have alternatives?

      • get a glass pitcher, Lemon & Lime 1.8L ~$12. delivery sometimes wrecks the deal but theres a 2 pack on ebay with free shipping for ~$30 and if you have like a $5 monthly coupon from ebay plus comes to ~$12.50 each delivered.

    • The bracket where one of the clips attaches to the lid has broken on one of mine, however it still manages to clip shut somehow.

    • Sistema are a bit dodgy. I don't mind the container and quite like the shape and the lid bulging above instead of below the top of the container so you can fill it to the brim, but the rubber seal does nothing.

The blue rubber looks like a seal but it's not water or airtight. The included instruction sheets even said so in the past, and when I called the 'help' line a few years asking what exactly the blue rubber ring was for if it didn't actually seal the lid, the lady just told me it was there for brand recognition.

I guess enough people complained because now the product description has been changed to "Designed with a new and improved built-in leak-proof seal* for mess-free storing and pouring" so they might have made it a little thicker or something, and added 4 clips instead of 2 (ninja edit: on some models), but some newer ones have still leaked on us between the fridge and the car on the way to picnics and back.

The boxes seem to flex a little when full of liquid which breaks the seal just enough to leak a bit. Nearly ended up with beetroot juice all through the car one day!

Edit: I just remembered some instructions mentioning to press down in the middle of the lid to squeeze air out before closing the centre clip, to maintain a bit of vacuum inside. Not sure if it was the Sistema brand or a different one, but the instructions said it WILL leak if you don't press down first. Makes sense too because trapped air will expand inside and push the container open like an inflated balloon when it gets hot. Worth a try.

      • why would you need to bring a whole pitcher? I just refill used plastic water bottles and chuck em out at the end so I don't need to carry anything back.
