Looking to Buy a Big Battery Phone to Replace One That Died

Hi All,

I'm looking to get an Android Phone with a big battery. It looks like the only brands that make big battery phones are Chinese brands such as the following:
OUKITEL, CUBOT, BLACKVIEW, DOOGEE, ULEFONE, FOSSIBOT, UNIHERTZ, HOTWAV

My previous big battery phone has died after 3.5 years (had a 10000mah battery), and I only want another big battery one.
Before it died, I had an android and an iPhone where the iPhone was my primary and the android was my backup.

I'm looking at doing a switcharoo and making the new android my primary phone instead, might try to fully convert to android in the end.

Specs of the phone need to be:
-Battery size 9000mAh or higher
-RAM should be 6GB or higher
-Needs to have all 4G Bands
-Phone size doesn't matter
-Camera can be lackluster
-Release date 2022 onwards
-Still gets security updates
(Runs Android 13 if not)
-Has some form of fast charging
-Full HD on Netflix and YouTube

To anyone who has one of the branded phones above, how old's your model and is it still getting security updates?

TIA

Get a phone you like without the big battery, and carry a portable charger around? Feels like less of a compromise.

I have the nitecore carbon 10000mah and really feels like nothing carting it around especially if its just in my backpack
    https://charger.nitecore.com/product/nb10000

I also have chargers everywhere - at work, at home, in the car, etc.

    • This is good advice but don't forget wireless charging as well - newer iphones and androids do wireless charging too
So that charging 'brick' in your bag or pocket can attach magnetically to the back of the phone
Or sit the phone on a charging pad or stand each time you put it down

Most decent phones will give all day battery life unless doing intense activity like video or gps
Add a charge into that equation and it's a no brainer

      • my dead one, didn't have to charge it for 5-7+ days, I bought the big battery one to avoid carrying a power bank.
Used to have a keychain power bank too but hated it.

What was your old phone, and how much screen time did it get? The battery lasting for days is could be less about the battery size and more about how much you used it. Get a modern phone, set it all up with low power mode (low refresh rate, low brightness), keep the screen off most of the time and it'll last that long too.

I'd be highly surprised if a lot of the cheap phones with giant batteries are going to sustain any kind of battery capacity long term. The reason not everyone jams in a huge capacity battery is because they tend to heat up more and don't live as long.

I'd also avoid every one of the phones in your post, they'll be about as secure as a wet paper bag and regardless of release year will probably use an old chipset and will never see an update.

          • @freefall101: I used it consistently for mainly mobile games at work so maybe 6-7 hours screen time on weekdays, rarely used on weekends.
            Purchased it from EBAY: 5.7 Blackview BV9500 Plus 4GB 64GB Smartphone 10000mAh IP68 Waterproof Helio P70

            • @BLAIL: lol nice, I want your job!

Thought about one that you can use with a battery case? Something like this where it just makes the phone thicker but isn't something separate - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006242234569.html

Then you can get a Samsung/Google phone with years of updates. They seem to only add about 100-150g to the phone weight, so it wouldn't be much different to your Blackview one.

          • @freefall101: Ok I will wait for Android 14…then will buy a big battery one then

If you have a powerbank, there's an "opportunity" to leave the powerbank at home on days you don't feel like carrying an "all-in-one". With the huge battery built-in, you have to carry all or nothing.

@bobbified: i'm ok with carrying around a 300g-400g phone in my pocket, i'd rather do that then carry both.

        • Up to you - but most people don't have a problem charging overnight or even every day or two
5-day battery life for a smart phone is unusual IMO

For different use case I can see the point - hiking/camping/emergency phone
You mentioned a lot of use is at work - where presumably you can do a quick charge most of the time

For me I would prefer a nicer, more modern phone with security updates that needs charging every couple of days
Rather than a big heavy brick with older Android and less secure
But that's why these things exist - cause we are all different :)

  • had a 10000mah battery

Damn.. it must've been a weapon!

Maybe the Energizer phone is to OPs liking?

      • Looks too old and too thick for me - looks to be double the thickness of the dead one

You can have a phone with an infinitely large battery. Just buy one of the models still available with a removable battery. One goes flat, swap in another one. Repeat.

    • So these have two batteries? an internal one and external one or the does the phone have to be off in order to swap them out first

Is the Samsung Xcover one what you're referring to?
