Japan on a Budget - OzBargain Style

Hey everyone going to Japan in less than a month and would love some tips on doing Japan on the cheap.

So far hopefully visiting the following places

  • Tokyo DisneyLand/Disney Sea
  • Ginza Shopping area
  • Tsukiji fish market
  • Sony Building
  • Akihabara
  • Shibuya
  • Harajuku
  • Osaka
  • Kyoto

Any tips of cheap eats/accommodation would be awesome. Also any 'must see' attractions.

Cheers.

        • Why were you there for 4 years?

        • i lost a bet.

        • I wouldn't mind losing this bet.

        • can i lose a bet too?

        • must have been hell of a bet

        • I went there for a year for work; kept renewing my contract each year.

  • I am convinced that "bed" is Japanese for "rock"

and kakebuton in english means "fluffy cloud that keeps you warm"

surpisingly the makura (bean filled pillow) is more comfortable than you would expect.

But yes I found matresses in Japan very hard.

And if you see "semi-double" bed - its barely more than a single.

Learn to top to tail - or one of you is sleeping on the floor.

  • For good quality budget accomodation give super hotel a try.

Usually under $100 a night. Bit more in tokyo. Free breakfast.
Worth having a look in my opinion.

  • I really want to go there.

  • So there is something going down on the 17th November in osaka/kyoto and everywhere is booked out :( any suggestions what to do or know of any hotels that are not on the popular websites that may not be booked out? Its crazy anyone know whats on?

    • Have you booked anywhere for the 17th yet?

Quick look revealed a single room in Jimbocho for Y7140. Even cheaper options in Asakusa and Ikebukuro for a shared dorm, if you're willing.

Asakusa and Ikebukuro would be better to stay than Jimbocho, which is nice but kinda boring.
