Dual Core Dual Sim phones?

Just swapped jobs and have 2 numbers, personal phone number and the number all my business contacts (nearly 2K of them) have in theri phones. I am not keen to carry around 2 phones, nor am I keen to call all 2K of them to lket them know about my new phone number so I've been looking for a dual SIM phone. Problem seems to be that they are all low end models, mid level offerings at best with single core processors.

2 current phones that seem to be top of the heap are:

HTC Desire V and Samsung Galaxy S Duos. Problem is that both have single core CPUs. I am amazed that there arent any dual sim dual core phones out there. I will use the phone for business so a mid size phone that fits in a suit pocket would be best.

The only dual core dual sim phones I can find on the net are either in production or they are chinese clone model phones. Am I ahead of the curve here? Is there one due out anytime soon or am I missing something. If anybody knows a good deal on a dual sim dual core phone I am all ears!!

  • Mass SMS the new number to everyone in the contact list?
There are apps and services that will do it for you.

Look into the Huawei G500 and G600 — dual core, dual sim, qHD 960×540 resolution.

    Starts from $256 USD
    www.etotalk.com/huawei-u8836d-ascend-g500-pro-shine-gorilla-…

    • Apologies for my lack of info but will these run on Optus/Voda 3G?

      • For the G500:

        2G:GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900MHz

        3G:WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+: 900/2100MHz

So yes, it will work on 3G Optus and it's resellers.

Vodafone uses 850mhz network, which this phone lacks, so you won't be getting high speed data connectivity.
It'll still work perfectly for calls and slight-slower web browsing usage though.

You might also want to look at the ZTE Grand X, which goes for $179.. It doesn't have a front camera, and the battery is smaller, but it packs the exact same CPU chipset and will provide the same performance for a much lower price.

        • Thanks for the advice guys, a lot of surfing and investigation today and I've gone with the suggestion and bought the Huawei G500. I saw that HTC has a new model just released in china that looks like very similar specs (but more expensive).

Ticked the box for the etotalk root and install of their ROM

        • Let us know how the phone goes and what etotalk were like to deal with. Thanks

Well? How did your new device turned out? People here are awaiting your experience with the HuaWei and with the company Etotalk.

Can you please inform us? I think too it's the perfect phone, but am afraid it's to big to fit in my pocket. what's your opinion?

Package arrived Friday I didnt get to it until today. When I ordered from Eotalk their order form has a range of Apps that you can have 'pre-installed'. I unticked all but the one where they root and update to their latest ROM. Didnt see the point in having them load me up with bloatware etc. Could be a trap for the unsuspecting though.

Postage was expensive. I went for the DHL option as I needed a phone and couldnt wait for the month or so the cheap option might take. I ordered last Sunday I think and I had an email from Eotalk to confirm my delivery address and then I received the shipping emails about Tuesday (they do have a disclaimer that if you have any work done (root etc) it might take a day or 2 longer for handling).

Phone arrived well packaged. Mine was in the original Chinese box, you can pay extra for a plain box but I didnt see the point. There was no Aust power adapter included, the stock chinese one looks like a US plug. The charger is another Micro USB cable and I already have plenty of AU Wall socket adapters for USB cables so I wasnt worried, in fact I would probably prefer that to another bulky power converter setup hanging out of the wall!

Phone started up great, there was a little bit of chinese writing on the Huawei startup splash screen if that matters to anybody. My 2 sim cards are Crazy Johns and Vaya (Vodafone and Optus), no dramas finding the networks. I chose for them to root and load their ROM. Setting up Gmail and getting access to the Google Play store was as easy as putting in my login and PIN.

I've laded up Skype and made a couple of skype calls, front camera works OK. I've logged into the Home Wifi no probs. I havent loaded up any games yet. I am waiting on delivery of a storage card before I load up on music, video and games etc.

All seems great so far, I havent tested out the video resolution or the speed of the processor with games. My greatest fear was that the thing would in some way be unusable but that is certainly not the case. I am keen to work out how to tether it to my Nexus 7 tablet.

        • Hey, thanks for the update!

Did you get to the dual-sim functionality yet? Calling with one and receiving an incoming call from the other? How is that handled within this phone?

And how does it fit in a jeans pocket, i mean will it break if you bend your leg to far :p I'm worried about that. Riding a bicycle won't be fun anymore

Keen to hear people will share their experiences

        • Ditto! Your take on battery life would also be of interest.

        • i mean will it break if you bend your leg to far :p I'm worried about that. Riding a bicycle won't be fun anymore

I have a SGS2 — 4.3 inches, fits snugly into my jeans but no it doesn't do very well in sporting situations. I would recommend a bluetooth headset and a backpack to carry your phone if you want to go bike riding with a large phone.

        • Ok, hmm to bad. I will go for the SGS Duos then. A phone's got to fit decent in a jeans pocket.

        • When you are surfing the internet with one SIM can someone still call you on the other SIM?

OK guys, couple of things starting to show up:

I keep getting a notification that an update is available for installation. 1/2 way through the update the process crashes and I need to reboot. I have tried this numerous times, always crashes.

I cannot get mobile data roaming to work at all. I am trying to use a vaya sim card. I had it work once yesterday but now, nothing. I have spent hours turning mobile data on and off but none of the settings seem to affect it. maybe I am a numptie and missed a setting though.

I cannot get it to connect to the HiSuite desktop application that comes with it. It doesnt appear that a driver is being loaded onto the PC so the software cannot recognise it. I stupidly upgraded to Windows 8, the most annoying OS ever invented if you arent on a tablet and that may have something to do with it.

        • Thanks for the update, 2ndeffort.

..And now a couple of slightly dumb questions:
How much did it cost you delivered from etotalk (including rooting)?
Have etotalk been helpful with any of the issues you have had with the phone?
Also can you run data on one sim while making a call on the other sim or not?

          Thanks

          1. USD$306
          2. I have emailed them tonight, I'll let you know how they respond
          3. Havent tried with wifi and the mobile data doesnt work. I dont think so though from what I have read.
        • Thanks for specifically addressing my questions -very helpful.

Re the data & calls I just saw an answer posted on the etotalk after I last looked which said the following:
"It is dual sim dual standby.
When one SIM use internet connection, both of two SIM are standby, they can receive phone calls.
When you pick the call, the internet connection will be offline.
It supports two 3G SIM cards for audio call in both slots. SIM 1 can use 3G data connection, but SIM 2 can not.
          Thanks"

Bugga about your issues…Maybe a custom rom will help. XDA? Modaco?

        • Its possible the HiSuite application doesn't really work on Windows 8, or the drivers aren't compatible yet.

1/2 way through the update the process crashes and I need to reboot. I have tried this numerous times, always crashes.

I would say that's probably because you are using a special ROM that was flashed by the guys that you bought from and that it doesn't support the official update coming from Huawei?

I would re-flash the ROM using some of the custom ones available on XDA, like this

  • I'm still trawling for the same thing, but I can't find a dual core, dual sim, dual camera in a smaller screen (less than 4.3'). Note that only a very few phones are dual active sim -in that one sim can be used to call the other as both sims are active at the same time, or if you are on a call on sim 1 you will be notified of a call on sim2.

There seem to be quite a few new dual sim, dual core, android phones coming on to the market in November-December 2012.

Other phones I have come across that don't meet my specs but you might like:

  • It's a bit late, but in case anyone wants a high end phone with dual sim - the Chinese Galaxy Note 2 will have dual sim.

EDIT: Oddly it hasn't been released yet. Not too sure if real….
