at least it's better than anything else in Australia

          • @Dilnav92: Nah its circling the drain. CBD is depressing dirty freak-show now.
Sydney and Brisbane are in much better shape.

            • @King Tightarse: Sydney CBD is a total shit show though. Covid and city construction works have killed the city vibe.

          • @Dilnav92: That's like saying this is the best shit heap out of all the shit heaps.

      • Was before around 2010.

        • +2

          that's when i was there….coincidence?

So generous! Time for a quickie, a cuddle and smoke, and still 13 minutes to spare!

Tempted to report this as a Joke Post, but oh well, a deal is a deal

  • +16

Oh Boy, thanks Capp, after you TOOK AWAY the free parking on Sundays….

    • +1

was about to say this…. They took away Sunday free parking and gave us 15 mins free parking everyday :/

      • Motorists will be able to park for free in under 15-minute spots, to encourage short visits to shops and businesses in the city.

        • And? I used to be able to expend even more money and time before it got arbitrarily taken away?

    • TOOK AWAY the free parking on Sundays….

Wow. When did this happen? I thought they would be doing everything possible to bring people back to the CBD

    • +2

Yes this is pretty crap, we used to be able to park free on Sundays…

    • Free parking at your local train station.

      • There's like 20 at Caulfield, and even less when they're doing "works" at Malvern Station. So no.

        • If you live near Caulfield or Malvern I suspect you don’t need to drive to the station.

Also if you live near Caulfield or Malvern and own a car: congratulations! You’re probably rich! May I direct you towards the Wilson Parking section of ozbargain for some parking deals?

          • -1

@tp0: You've missed the point…it's OzBargain, and my post wasn't about the (overpriced) public transport Melbourne provides.

            • @Koffee: If someone posted free 2 hour street parking on Sunday before the change it would have been reported for being unobtainable. It was an increasingly pointless exercise.

It was just a carrot being dangled which drew cars into the CBD only to drive around in circles increasingly frustrated. It was a terrible outcome for everyone involved. Made traffic worse, made the streets less safe, more pollution.

  • +7

this is surely a joke. they have removed free sunday parking throughout the city. pay street parking is now extended till 10pm in most areas.

    • Why is that? Is the city going broke? If that's the case, the best solution they can come up with is to milk people?

      • +1

very typical politicians. we need more money, let's charge higher of this, higher of that, etc.

most recently, almost all councils in vic spin off their rubbish collection fee from council rates. this way they can increase the collection fee as much as they feel appropriate (increase in CR is limited to x%)

      • +1

If it's anything like Sydney, it's to 'green' the CBD by making it impossible to drive your car into it. And, by sheer coincidence, this also happens to give the council and Wilson Parking massive revenue streams. Because entrenching a monopoly on car parking is exactly what the IPCC recommended to stop climate change…

  • great trap.
makes you think you can do what you need to do in 15 minutes, then realise you aren't going to make it back in time, so melbourne steals the top spot over sydney being the richest city in australia.

  • I rather pay for my parking at the physical machine than to give these greedy app dev 10% fees for paying through their app.

    • +1

So the council don't pay for the supply and maintenance of the machines?

    • Those machines are relics and have to go. Where I'm from almost all machines were removed as 99% of people have been using the app.

  • taking the piss!

  • +1

I have an issue with this, you MUST use that crap app to get the free time.

  • Don't you just chance it anyway if you're only ducking in somewhere for 5 minutes?

  • Gee thanks Melbourne. 15 mins?

Is this not like a drug dealer giving you a first hit for free.

    • No worries, you can pay for these 15 minutes then

  • Sally does a shit job

  • What a joke. No wonder all the retail and restaurants in the city are going under.

  • looks like traps you to get a parking fine after 15mins

  • From my experience I'm pretty sure this is not per parking session, so you can't just hop from spot to spot.

I was dropping off and picking up equipment for an event, wasn't charged for my first stop but sadly was for the second.

What a dumpster fire of a City Melbourne has become

  • So what's the fee then if say you return to your car in 20 minutes instead of 15 minutes?
