Cheapest Way to Port in and out of Provider

Hi all would appreciate your experiences. Recently bought a 365 year boost SIM. Unfortunately I’m already with Boost and looks like there’s no way to keep your number without porting out.

What’s the best way to port out and then port back in? I bought a $2 Optus SIM but apparently you can’t actually port without buying a plan…

Thanks!

  • Any $2 will work you'll likely just have to phone to bypass the porting across.

Did it with a lebara $2 sim a few days ago. Took all of 5 mins.

  • More mobile. They have esim and it will be free if you are a CBA customer

  • I would suggest you with amaysim $2 sim, pay as you go plan.

Not sure do you need $10 recharge voucher now but previously i did this way. Port in to amaysim (PAY as you go plan) -> Port out to new provider.

  • I have been using Vodafone $10 sim to go from boost to boost. Vodafone sim is currently on sale for $4 at Coles.

  • Digging up an old thread, looking for anyone's recent experiences with Boost port out/in. The past few years I've just bought a new Boost prepaid 12mth SIM, activated via online support inc. number transfer and happy days, but recent comments suggest they won't do it anymore.

I see Kogan does an eSim starting from $5, my S23 can do this so is this going to be the easiest port out/in to Boost or should I still find a cheap physical SIM for the port?

  • Can't you just change plans within the Boost portal and hence keep the same number? Your not a new customer so no porting should be needed, that is only for if you are changing from say Telstra to Optus. In this case its just a change of plan so should be treated that way hence no porting needed.
Should be a 5 minute thing for the Boost staff to be able to do.

    • Can only do a recharge which is much worse price/data vs new customer sim only options

  • Oh right Boost is pre-paid if you switch to a post paid provider you generally can get higher data allowances for cheaper but then you also get a monthly bill. So it comes down to requirements.

  • Is it an issue porting out from boost to Aldi (which is also Telstra) then back to boost again.. re ‘new customer’ cashback etc

    Thanks

Confused about the whole process and each step that needs to be taken..

365 boost plan ending in a few days

Need a new boost 365 plan..

    Want to keep existing number

Saw top cashback have good rates

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi everyone

Just wanting to check that this is a straightforward thing. 12 months ago I recharged boost with a starter SIM by asking them nicely on chat. I know that is no longer an option but I have a 1 month Lebara Sim to port out to, and a $230 boost Sim to port back into.

Should I anticipate any issues. So seriously don't want to lose my number or lose service.

What is the recommendation for how long I should stay with Lebara before porting back to boost?

Appreciate any feedback and advice. It's kind of nerve wracking.
