Second-Hand Samsung 75" TV for $350 on FB - Is This a Scam?

Recently I've seen a few "near new" 75" Samsung TVs for $350-$400 on FB Marketplace. Looking online, these sets appear to cost $1700+ brand-new. Is there some kind of catch here? Why would someone sell so cheap?

Something I noticed in the photo - the light switches on the wall are the American type, Aus. light switches don't look like that. At least not that I've ever seen.

Because it will be a scam, they will say they cant be there for collection but can deliver ..you will transfer and not get your tv.

    Often hijacked accounts

I messaged them and they wanted a $50 deposit on it. I also messaged them at 4am and they messaged right back, like who is up at that time?

You know when they say that when something is too good to be true..

There are enough gullible people on marketplaces that many different scams abound.

Hulu app is a bit of a giveaway. That’s not installed on AU stock.

    • Well spotted! I also asked the seller of another one (75") how much he paid for it, and he said $700. Yeah, right.

    If you need to ask…..

Anyone - is this one legit or a scam as well? $200 for Switch OLED?

If it was legitimately that cheap, it would be gone by now.

The same advice posted before applies to this as well.

  • "It's in new condition cover plastic isn't removed yet" & "Used for 2 years" .
How do you watch a high quality TV with it's protective plastic still on? Must have very bad eye sight.

"Can deliver it for a fee" . So COD and no exceptions and only after you see it running in your place.

Just let the seller know you'll pay by cash and would like to pick up. They'll give you some story about lack of pickup option and/or ghost you, and/or refer you to their store etc.

Best you equip yourself with these life skills rather than seeking verification from others.

  • go to the sellers profile, they have no posts/no photos, no details. have a look at the friends. most of them are from kenya and nigeria.

I'm not saying Davy Yap -location Melbourne- can't have friends that are only from Kenya and Nigeria - and none from Melbourne - where she (according to the profile pic) lives but usually you have at least a couple of local friends….

  • 1) Sounds too good to be true
    2) Multiple red flags.
    3) Scant signs of authenticity of seller

And yet a thread is required..
God help Australia. No wonder we get gouged

Yes, I hit is the item still available and they sent me a random address instantly in brisbane city which is super dodgy, I usually ask them to take a screen shot of the menu and SN which they can't do or is taken off google so reverse search shows it

  • If the images screen displays a Samsung demo video, its always a scam.

Also if the images are low resolution but well taken, its a scam.

  • Ha I've seen that one for ages! They ask for a deposit so they can hold it, because "there's so much interest"… Umm yeah nah.

But not all are scams, I got a 2022 model 75" 4K Samsung a few months ago for $400, seller was moving back home, alas that's more opportunistic.

65" Samsung/LG are cheap as chips if you have a little bit of patience. 75"/+ are bit tricky, I spent about 3 months looking for one to replace my aging Hisense. There was a 82" Samsung for $500 a few weeks ago, went and checked it out and everything, was going to flip the 75" and upgrade for free, but someone got to it before I did.

  • I've noticed the same and I haven't even been looking for TVs at all. I notice that they're mostly large 75 or 75" and they all offer delivery. I think this is the catch….
And searching Google for "Facebook TV Scam" I came across this thread and the following news post:
