Anyone got experience with mate? Better or worse than tangerine? Do they have a sticky IP? Thanks

Was with Mate for more than 4 years before moving to Exetel and now Tangerine. Service was excellent, Very few dropouts (although they did happen sometimes). They dont seem to have static IP addresses available according to their website

      • Thanks. I think dynamic is fine. Just can’t be cgnat because I run a Plex server. Thanks for the info

Currently with Tangerine. Ported over from Mate. Horrible experience.
More dropouts in the week that I was with them than in the last couple of years with Superloop/Leaptel/ABB.
Tangerine has been almost as good as Superloop/Leaptel, waaay better than Mate.

Was with mate for a few years. Customer service was great but internet has alot of drop outs and terrible packet loss. Switched over to Superloop, no issues ever since.

      • +1

I had exactly that experience. Mate changed their servers and turned to shite. Superloop were superb in comparison

Was with them for 2 years. Had nightly outages. Switched to Superloop and would never go back. Customer and tech support would also constantly lie and tell me nothing was wrong. Got incredibly frustrating.

I was with Mate for ages until their underlying network changed from Vocus.

Once that happened everything turned to crap. Netflix often buffered during peak periods or would play a low quality stream because it detected a low line speed… Fast.com could manage 30ish Mbps and speedtest.net 90mbps.

Their tech support denied any shaping or prioritising traffic and couldn't fix the issue.

Switched providers and now everything's back to normal.

      • Yes it did turn to crap and I left them at that time after several years as a customer. I recently returned due to their $20 off deal above, after they said they had upgraded their network. It is going pretty good now, I got NBN 25. No dropouts, I'm generally getting around 18-22mbps which is OK for me. Not many people are paying only $45/month for NBN.

Recently was with Mate and it was poor in my experience - peak network congestion issues.

I was with Mate and they were excellent to start off with. They changed their network provider or something like that and it went down hill from there. Been away for over a year now and was glad I did leave. Speeds were poor and they throttled speed to certain sites. fast.com showed their true colours back then.

  • Damn I was thinking to swap mu superloop. Sign up first month already have 3 unplanned outage for between 1-3hrs

Mate was okay a while ago, but now they're shockingly poor with their new network provider.

  • Discounted price isn't much less than the undiscounted price for Exetel or Superloop

  • Im with mate now. They have been excellent for the 18 months I’ve been with them. Im going to contact them and see if they want me to leave to get this deal.

    • I'd love to know how you get on.

    • I contacted them just last week, have been with mate for 3 years now. They can't do anything for current customers, which is sad because I actually don't mind the connection as it seems fairly "speedy" and hardly any disconnects (I'm no expert, just an average user). Sadly, they also said specifically I can't even op-out and back on to get this deal - which I wasn't going to bother doing anyway. Their email was also very vague, which was frustrating! I had to follow up with a response email to get things clarified.

I'm thinking of going Superloop or Extel based on the reviews and current deals.

  • I was happy with Mate after 2 years using the service, but after changing provider and increasing the price in all the plans, I guess will switch to 12 months with More current promo with CBA 35% off.

    • hmm how do u get this deal with more

  • Signed up to Mate at 3pm yesterday, took two hours to connect and so far, so good.

When Mate still use Vocus network, it is rock solid and I never had any issues. However, after it had changed to Wireline, the network became unreliable. In the morning, I may get 220/21 for my 250/25 plan if I was lucky. But I got less than 100 after 5PM very frequently and even less than 10 one day or two each week. Make sure you check with them which network they use in your area before you sign up. Otherwise, it may drive you crazy because of the network speed.

You may want to stay away from Mate if you are a network game player. I got very high pings when I was using Mate (Wireline) network. Network status in Gension Impact was always red and it was not a good experience.

PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVE AND DO NOT USE MateNBN!

It’s one of the worst ISP provider I have ever experienced! And I am using it right now and its connection is so intermittent, just garbage….

    • Ive used all the main ISPs other than Optus. Mate is the worst one by a country mile. So like bagachin said dont get it. No matter what price. Evening time is worse than dial up speed. Dont think I ever got max speed throughout the 3 months i was with them. Customer service is awful, they took money out of my account twice without sending any bills (email, portal or post). Dropouts occurred every few days. Sometimes minutes, sometimes hours. Micro dropouts multiple times per day. Friends had exactly the same issue. Unless they make some drastic changes Mate will be the worst ISP in Australia for a long time.

  • Why not superloop?

  • +1

Currently with Mate… poorest speeds I’ve ever had on nbn.

  • I was with mate for about 5-6 years, never had dramas. Even when moving the customer service was outstanding. Only changed to superloop now because I wanted gigabit and mate said they didn't have any plan to offer it in the near future

  • I had some issues with Mate - YouTube was simply useless after 6-7 pm and they couldn’t figure out why. I think because they simply limit speed to some services. I ended up switching to Superloop and I am very happy with everything. Be aware that Mate is not the best NBN and clearly not the best value for your money even with these discounts.
