ISP's That Offer Post Billpay

Hey guys,

Just wondering if the community can tell me which (good) ISPs still offer post bill-pay as an option.

My grandmother recently got NBN 12/1 installed at her place and TPG/Optus no longer offers pay-in-person (Post Bill-Pay).
She's old-fashioned, she still likes to go into the bank, pull out money and pay for everything in person, it helps her keep track of spending.

The only ones I could find were

  • Telstra (Expensive)
  • Southern Phone NBN (Horrible reviews)
  • AGL NBN (Owns Southern Phone = Horrible reviews)
  • Vodafone (Expensive, negative reviews)
    Any help would be appreciated.

Pay it for her via your credit card and she gives you the money each month, or pay a year in advance?

Or, get a prepaid visa card or something and then she tops that up with money each month……

I understand the pain, my grandparents are very similar with going to the Post Office and paying each month for bills. But, my grandparents have moved up in the world and gone from a Nokia phone to a basic iPhone and can text. So with some training, it can happen.

    • I have tried, she's pretty stubborn and independent lol.

She likes getting bills in the mail, she collects them, makes a pile and each month makes a little trip to the post office and pays with cash.
      She actually likes it….

        Issue her a bill.
Tell her you set up an ISP JUST FOR HER.

      • Wont last as she gets older

        Change to direct debit

      • Good for her. There's nothing wrong with what she is doing.

It’s wasn’t an option, phone line got canceled….NBN replaced phone lines.

Yes, there was the option not to switch to NBN.

It is not mandatory to have a home phone.

  • Probably check with iiNet, but again, expensive

    Australia Post broadband?

Prices start from $54 for the most basic NBN tier. No idea where to find information on which ISP's support Post-billpay though.

according to their PDF, you can pay in-store with a debit or credit card, not sure about cold hard cash payments.

    • That’s actually a good catch well done! Who would have thunk it!?

My only concern would be the quality of the ISP, the ones I listed above have very concerning reviews.

      • Does it really matter? It's all provided by NBN Co.

I can't say she'd be the gaming/streaming type to care about speeds.

With a 12/1 service I dont think the 'quality' is going to be a major differences between providers.
Things like congestion or high pings arent going to impact someone on a 12/1 service level

All NBN is run by… NBN Co. Reviews of the retailers are only related to evening data speeds, customer service and the like.

It sounds like grandma doesn't use internet at all? For phone only you won't notice a practical difference regardless of which retailer she goes with.

In fact, if she doesn't use internet at all you're better off just getting her a mobile phone on a cheap plan with unlimited calls (pretty much all of them). She'll literally save hundreds of dollars.

Or the Olitech EasyTel 4G Seniors Phone even looks and behaves like an actual phone but uses a SIM card instead of a landline. I can recommend.

  • Go to the bank and pay via BPay, instead of Postbillpay? She's already there taking out cash.

That opens up quite a lot more options.

  • Pay by cheque. 😁
Keep paying cash! Theres a reason why you should.

  • You could take over the account and pay it for her digitally.
If you start a new account in your name, gives you the opportunity to find her the best deal/plan.
Print the bill and give it to her.
    She gives you the cash.
If your paying the bill on time, might be good for your credit rating..
