Refurbished Dell Laptop - Manufacturer's Warranty Not Applicable?

Hi, just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction here as I've done a bit iof reading but am still unclear about things. Story and questions below.

  • I bought a "refurbished" Dell laptop from an Australian seller (not from the Dell Outlet store). The seller said that these are new and when I received the item, it looks brand new with the original box, charger etc. Battery cycle count also shows 0. However, there were fingerprints on the laptop which was fine with me

  • When I check warranty status through Dell, it says "unable to show warranty details" and "issue with support services". Should I be concerned about this? Whilst I did buy the laptop based on the understanding that the seller said 3 months warranty through them, I was expecting (maybe this is wrong on my part?) that I would still have access to the manufacturer's warranty as this is a new model?

I'm still happy with the purchase but there is a lingering concern about the issue with support services message when I check warranty. Maybe I should call Dell and check myself but just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this. Thanks.

When the warranty status has wording to that effect, it sometimes means that the laptop is part of a corporate support contract. I wouldn't be concerned. You have the 3 month seller warranty which you agreed to.

Yeah could have been stock purchased or leased by a big corp for WFH prep and never left the shelf.

Hopefully the battery is ok, sometimes they die if left too long.

  • That's comforting. Thank you both!

    • Was it bought from an eBay seller?

Some expert advice, since I've seen this plenty of times.

It's most likely a new warranty replacement item for an item that is no longer in warranty.

This is fairly common in the education sector where the department/ school will take out Accidental Damage Protection Insurance for an item. The warranty won't start again with the supply of the new item. Also the same goes for products that are non-serviceable (Surfaces ect.)

    • Awesome. Thank you.

Refurbished Laptop - Manufacturer's Warranty Not Applicable?

Correct, the OEM has dumped these out 'cheap', as part of that deal they don't give any warranty.

I got a Lenovo from Grays once, Lenovo showed no warranty on it, it was marked as expired, Grays offered 12 months via them.
