Citizen Automatic Promaster 'Fujitsubo' Titanium Sapphire Marine Diver Watch NB6021-17E $599 Delivered @ Starbuy

270

I have the blue one on on bracelet and it's very nice, but it's still in it's box in the pile. Good dimensions and specs, and has the 9 series movement.

Citizen Mechanical collection Automatic Promaster 'Fujitsubo' Marine Diver NB6021-17E. This watch has a case width of 41mm, thickness of 12.3mm and lug width of 20mm and uses Sapphire Crystal.

In a modern interpretation of the original 70’s dive watch, Citizen re-introduces the new Promaster Mechanical Diver NB6021-17E – the timepiece with a deep backstory. Inspired by the design of the 1977 Citizen Challenge Diver that was found on an Australian beach in 1983, the watch was covered in barnacles after having been submerged in the Pacific Ocean for years……and was still ticking! That history has inspired the new Promaster Mechanical Diver and given it the affectionate nickname, Fujitsubo – Japanese for barnacle.

The lightweight and scratch-resistant Super TitaniumTM case of the Promaster NB6021-17E is complemented by a black dial with embossed hands and a classic green luminous treatment for a vintage feel, a rotating elapsed-time bezel, and an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The retro look is completed with the black polyurethane strap with a raised square pattern.

This advanced timepiece with automatic movement features enhanced magnetic resistance to protect against external magnetic fields, as well as a 42-hour power reserve. This high-performance watch is ISO compliant and water resistant to 200 meters. Caliber number 9051.

The new Cal. 9051 movement uses anti-magnetic materials for the balance spring and surrounding components to boost the overall magnetic resistance of the watch. This new model is capable of maintaining performance even when placed 1 centimeter from a device emitting a magnetic field of 16,000 A/m. The watch is also resistant to magnetic fields from everyday devices, including smartphones, and it can even be used aboard ships with magnetic compasses. In addition to magnetic resistance, the watch also has ISO compliant*2 water resistance up to 200 meters. It can run for 42 hours when fully wound, with daily accuracy of -10 to +20 seconds – solid performance for a mechanical watch. The hour hand, minute hand, and indexes have a luminescent coating to ensure high visibility.

ok…now when do you go to/come back from work?

        • +3

Depends on which house/apartment, or if I'm on my yacht.

          • +1

@rosebank: Being humble and not mentioning the jet?

Get it out of the box! It's too nice to not be worn.

  • +2

Just be aware that I ordered this last time and they sent out a used one.

    • Did they send you a replacement?

      • +1

Nope, they said they’re gonna check other stocks, gave them I think a day or 2, never got back to me and when I follow up, they just issue refund immediately. Was disappointed with the way they handled it after getting like 3 watches before that.

        • Well, they have stock now

          • @rosebank: The thing is they always have stock. They just didn’t bother sending another one, it’s easier to just issue a refund immediately.

        • So they issued you a refund before you sent back the watch??

          • @devpress: Nice try , I doubt on your mother they'd be doing that !

i was interested before reading this. thank you for the warning.

On the other hand how often do you see bad feedback about Starbuy considering the 100's of watch posts & thousands of purchases by OzB members?

        • This, that’s why I hope my experience doesn’t deter anyone from still buying from Starbuy.

    • how was the condition of the used watch?

      • +1

Full of scratches on caseback, no plastic covering or anything.

Look you can still order one, it’s a really good watch. Very light.

        • Ah, not interested (I'm not a watch collector/hoarder, I just like to look), I was just curious. When you say they issued a refund, do you mean you ended up with a free watch or had you already returned it?

          • @beltdrive: I returned it.

            • @seeknsearch: Hopefully sending you a used watch was just an honest mistake, but refunding you instead of sending a replacement is a bit weird.

    • I did read that comment in another thread before and that puts me off buying the GMT during cyber monday.

but it's still in it's box in the pile.

    i expect nothing less

    • but now I want a hi res vid of him testing it off/on his yacht! lol

  • im not sure why youd admit this in public….?

  • As a watch noob, why are these plain looking watches in the $600 range very popular? I had imagined people would be more so looking at more expensive watches (given the range of prices you can pay for watches), but I only ever see people praising $600 automatics.

    • well for 1

      its ⭐⭐⭐ T I T A N I U M ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

      • I appreciate the humour, but I am honestly curious as to why.

        • +4

Well, we would argue the point about 'plain'. It's in the eye of the beholder.

As much as we'd all like to have boxes filled with Rolexes and Pateks we live in the real world where we have mortgages and bills and try to eat most days, so watches like this Citizen represent attainable goals. And, frankly, diminishing returns apply. Do you get 10x the watch from a Swiss monster that costs 10x or 100x as much? Nah. And then you can't actually wear it for fear of it getting dinged or being mugged for it.

I might be an outlier, but the watches in the price range you're describing don't really appeal to me personally tbh.

If I were to get an affordable Japanese automatic dive watch like the OP I'd probably get an Orient:

          https://www.amazon.com.au/Orient-RA-AA0002L19B-Mens-Watch/dp…
          https://www.amazon.com.au/ORIENT-Automatic-Divers-watch-0200…

Albeit these are stainless steel, not titanium

I don't mind quartz watches, so I could get something even cheaper and get a Casio Duro

And if you don't mind non-Japanese watches, you could save more money and get an Aliexpress watch or an Invicta https://www.amazon.com.au/Invicta-Diver-Collection-Automatic…

On the other hand I'd also be willing to pay a lot more something like this https://seikoboutique.com.au/product/SPB143J

My point being that the watches that get posted here might be popular on here, but it doesn't mean they're for everyone

Also if you want to see what a plain looking watch for a lot of money looks like, take a look at this one: https://www.seikoboutique.co.uk/product/credor-eichi-ii/

Gotta know your audience. This is OzBargain, not a watch forum.

In addition to this, a lot of the more luxury brands do not do discounts, so there aren't 'deals' to post.

I had imagined people would be more so looking at more expensive watches

I look at all sorts of watches, $200-$1500 for yolo watches, more than that I have to actually think about and not impulse buy (and start looking at used Sinns). I mainly buy Japanese and German, but buy the occasional Swiss.

You will not find a Swiss watch with the lowest grade Sellita movement, and these specs for $600 or even $1k. This watch is titanium, has a pretty accurate movement, very well made, and is great value at $600. It also has 5 year warranty.

This is Ozbargain, watches $1k+ rarely get posted here.

        Sinn

        looks at wrist

        Oh, you made my day.

        • What model you wearing?

          • +1

@rosebank: 556 Carnelian Red (which is most definitely orange and that is why I love it).

            • +1

              @O15: Nice. 556 and 556A are classics

      • +1

Ahk so its got great specs for the price, and true luxury brands are not the audience for a budget focus consumer such as with what you would find here. So people who can actually afford to purchase watches as a hobby AND are bargain hunters can easily afford to snap up many of these just for daily variety use. Got it.

        • +1

          Pretty much, yeah.
And you can build a very nice collection without touching any luxury brands.

For me, it's not about what the watch costs but what you're getting for the money.

A $200 watch can be good value and a $20,000 watch can be good value.

        • +1

Pretty much, yeah. I buy watches for fun

I've been eyeing this model for a while and am gonna pull the trigger. I like plain and enjoy the idea of wearing understated watches. I wear watches for myself, not to draw other people's attention. I think this is great value for $600 that's titanium, iso certified, 4hz movement (if you care), got horological history with proven toughness and (imo) a pretty timeless design. If anything, I think this model is "flashier" than most of my other watches which include Seiko SPB143, Sinn 556i, Tudor Pelagos 39. All 3 pretty much adored by most of the watch community whilst still regarded as "plain".

    • I don't think it's plain at all. It's a beautiful watch,

Bought this from Starbuy last time it was on sale, 9/10 would recommend, super light, smooth second hand sweep, strap monster as well, looks great on a mustard nato! Downsides are the 60-click bezel that is not the most satisfying for fidgeting, and the generic unsigned stock strap. But for a retro-style titanium sapphire auto dive watch with a great movement, the value here is tough to beat. No regrets and it's a regular in the rotation.
