Not the cheapest deal ever on OzB for this terrific Atmos capable 5.1.2 AV receiver, but still a good price.

This does not have a proper HDMI 2.1 implementation, capped 24 Gbps, would avoid and get something 40 Gbps and above.
Sorry for the ignorance, but the benefit of 40Gbps is for Bluray or Xbox series X?
you only need to worry for consoles xbox/ps5
Thanks. I couldn’t see anything in the description stating it didn’t support 40Gbps. It states “2.1” and “8k”.
What should I look out for?
@ShMiCk: They are hiding that fact its a bad implementation of HDMI 2.1.
I bought one at launch thinking it was 40+Gbps, because the marketing talked about its suitability for gaming on next gen consoles and PC, then had to get the motherboard swapped over because it couldn't even do HDMI 2.1 , then it was reveled it was only 24 Gbps. 24Gbps cant display all the data of a HDMI 2.1 signal has to reduce image quality to do 4K/120.
The AVR itself is OK but I would never touch a Yamaha product again because of how they treat their customers. i.e. false and misleading advertising, bad hardware requiring a motherboard swap
@noise36: I've looked high and low, and can't see anywhere that this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/817309 does or doesn't do proper 2.1 40Gbps. It does state "8k".
Is this one also false advertising or a better buy?
@noise36: You can get the HDMI board upgraded for free through Yamaha. Technically the upgrade period has expired but it’s worth reaching out to see if you can still do it. I got my RX-V6A HDMI board upgraded a few months back.
Yamaha HDMI 2.1 board upgrade program
The guy I spoke to at Yahama mentioned the upgrade program might be extended so there’s a good chance it can still be done.
@Symbiotic: I did the upgrade , its still a bad HDMI AVR stuck at 24Gbps, so downgrades signal quality unless the device has DSC which many things dont.
@noise36: You're on the money heh. I've sent mine back (Amazon is great) and I may order the onko TX-NR 7100 instead.. more channels and proper 40gbps 4k/120 with VRR supposedly. Only trouble is it's a bit too large for where I need to put it.
But it has DSC so it will be ok for xbox 4k 120 which also has DSC (Display Stream Compression)
No because XBOX/PlayStation etc dont support DSC
XBOX Series X has DSC.
@vaper: Has this been confirmed? Even if it does PS5 doesnt so its still an AVR not fit for purpose.
Hmm, why does this have 9 speaker outputs if it's 7.2?
Can multi-room
It supports 7.2 either with Dolby atoms front presence speakers, or 7.2 with surround speakers.
Hence 9 channels, but only 7.2.
Saying that as I have this unit.Ah yeah true (also have this unit)
7.2 or 5.2.2192.168.1.1 (home)
@Ulysses31: Home is 127.0.0.1 ….
I have the model down from this, the V4A. It's honestly really good. No complaints from me. Integrates really well with the smart home.
Been looking at the V4A. $655 with the code is very tempting.
I've had it for over a year. No complaints on my end.
Okay, one complaint. The volume number on the amp and the volume number on the TV are off by about 1, so they don't match.
That's it. That's my only complaint.
I've got this one and it hasn't missed a beat.
