Advice Requested On Selling New Unwanted Laptop Safely Online

Hello,

I impulsively bought a Lenovo Legion Slim gaming laptop and without having opened it yet have decided I don't need it, can barely afford it, and that doesn't justify wanting it. Unfortunately I ummed and ahhed too long and can no longer return it to Lenovo.

Does anyone have any experience in selling laptops online safely - as far as avoiding being scammed or losing laptop and money? I am thinking to list it on Marketplace (aren't they all a hotbed for scams) but as pick-up and cash only. Any further thoughts, suggestions, tips, or advice please?

Thank you.

  • All the selling platforms these days have an element of risk when it comes to scams. Be vigilant and protect yourself and you’ll find a legitimate buyer.

Ask lots of questions, poke holes in the story and you’ll know if it’s legit or not. Reach out if you’re unsure of anything, happy to advise.

  • Not Marketplace. Nobody is giving you 2k+ in cash for a (for all they know stolen) laptop. You'd probably have to put a pretty deep discount on it to move it.

I would probably go with eBay + Paypal. Not perfect but you at least have some avenues to go down if things go tits up and you'll have a much larger pool of potential buyers (second hand high end gaming laptops is probably a bit of a niche market I would think)

Maybe ask lenobo if they'll take it back again?

If selling on eBay, join eBay+ to get selling 1 item with no Fees. If not, the selling fees will be over $100 easily!

Sell to a secondhand dealer or payday lender? But I expect you want the highest possible price from a genuine buyer with 100% transaction security and no fees.

Also give them your address in the advert and tell them to pick up asap.

Be prepared for heavy discounting. You wont grt your money back.

Ebay will be the best place to sell.

Thank you all. Sounds like Ebay+ / Paypal is the way to go. Or keep it.

    Cheers.

If selling on ebay, make sure you have the serial number recorded and photographed beforehand. There are scammers who will look to raise a case to return another faulty unit.

  • Sell it at your local pub.
