  • 4x 16 GB. Not everyone has that many slots.

They can always resell two sticks or split costs with someone who wants two sticks.

    • +6

DDR5. Not everyone has a motherboard that supports that.

      • -3

DDR7. Not everyone knows the release date

RGB. Not everyone can see colour

          • +1

@BarkGains: Cats' two color-detecting cones let them see blue-violet and yellow-green wavelengths of light, but not red-orange. So, similar to dogs, cats mainly see things in shades of yellow, gray, and blue tinges, but some researchers think that cats may also notice some shades of green.

            • @[Deactivated]: I've never actually thought about a cats colour vision, was aware that dogs are believed to be able to see colour these days. When I saw there was a response to this comment I did not expect to learn something new, thanks! However I'm disappointed to learn that any cats that visit my house also won't be able to fully appreciate my RAM

A valid comment , but negged by two idiots.

Last time I checked there was no chipset capable to work in dual channel mode with 4 of DDR5 modules, so 4 DDR5 makes no sense.

    • +1

You might want to check again, any AM5 or Intel 600 / 700 Series motherboard that has 4 memory slots will run 4 sticks in dual channel

      • +2

Yup, I have these exact 4 running in my AM5, 7800x3d build, no issue.

        • Are you able to run your ram stable at 6000mhz? Been having some issues with mine recently, had to clock down

          • @D-Man: Is your specific RAM model listed on the QVL for your mobo? Not saying that's sure to be the reason - just curious.

          • @D-Man: You should check if there is a BIOS update available for your AM5 system. The newer AGESA versions, such as 1.0.8.0, have significantely improved RAM compatibility.

        • I've got an MSI board x670-Pro, ram not listed but I'm running at XMP speed and timing. I do have random hanging in game to be fair, but I'm chalking that up to AMD video drivers (running 7900xtx) rather than memory.

          • +1

@jaymzrsa: I had similar issues with games crashing, freezing, etc. (also running a 7900XTX) and after adjusting my RAM voltages and manually setting some of the timings, it's working perfectly now.

Check what IC's your kit is using and find a tuning guide for them, it will tell you which voltages to set manually and what to set them to

          • @jaymzrsa: What ram configuration are you running ?

            • @feathers9: 4 x 16gb (same listed here) running at 6000mhz 36-44-44-96 @ 1.4v

              • @jaymzrsa: If I was a betting man I think it’s pretty likely your instability is caused by that 4x16 combo rather than the 7900xtx drivers.

4x16 is hard to run, it’s might be doable with manual voltages or lucky CPUs,

Easy way to test it is take out 2 sticks and see if it goes away.

If you want to send me a pm I could help you prove it via stress testing.

Would almost buy that if I wasn't moving away from iCue. And if it was CL30.

Beware plenty of people have issues with running 4 sticks at rated speeds on Amd

    No issue for Intel

    • Are you sure about no issue for Intel part? There are multiple reports where people still have to drop RAM frequency on Intel platforms. Overall, Intel platforms are still much better compared to AMD AM5, but 4 DIMMs at rated speed is still unsafe.

      • Sorry should have said less issues, especially at this speed and latency

      • Here I thought I knew enough about ram for my build but I obviously don't. So if I were to run a 7950x3d and was looking at the best ram combo, this ram wouldn't be ideal?

        • No, because:

          • Currently 4 DIMMs is a big no no for current gen AM5. You are really brave to try that combo, especially if the RAM modules are not in the motherboard's QVL for 4 DIMMs.
          • Samsung B-die for DDR5 isn't the best. I had to return mine set of 2 DIMMs of Samsung B-die DDR5 despite trying them with a BIOS which supposedly have improved Samsung DDR5 support. It's a different kit though and newer AGESA may have improved the situation. Did buy from Amazon AU so the return was pain free.

          Check out Jayz's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZGiBOZkI5w

AM5, when it works, it works great. When it doesn't, it can be a real pain. I never experienced a system freeze in BIOS until AM5. Also, so far, for AM5, I need to change RAM to JEDEC default (DDR5-4800) when I want to upgrade the BIOS. Once that's done, change it back to EXPO / XMP. Not sure whether it is just my board or all AM5 boards are like that.

          • @netsurfer: Urgh that sounds like a (profanity). What's the best option then? A different set of ram? I never knew the die and am5 combo was an issue to building since all I worried about was the frequency and class. Definitely need to do more research.

        • I picked up this kit during boxing day sales for $299 after eBay discount and upsized cashback: https://www.computeralliance.com.au/64gb-ddr5-(2x32g)-corsair-6000mhz-vengeance-rgb-cmh64gx5m2b6000c30-ram

They use Hynix chips and for my setup have no issues running at 6200MHz 30-38-38-30 + Buildzoid's secondary timings, haven't tried tweaking them further though (doing same timings I had on my previous 32GB kit and haven't be arsed to do too much tweaking and testing haha).

The fact that you have a 7950X means a dual CCD CPU so it'll be worthwhile finding a kit (Hynix A-Die) that can clock to higher frequencies whereas I have a single CCD 7700X that's limited by the infinity fabric bandwidth so not much point clocking it higher than 6000-6200MHz.

          • @basketballfreak6: *Black Friday sales

          • @basketballfreak6: Thanks that's helpful information I'll have to get my arse into gear to read up more.

            • @TeamSAXON: No worries mate. If you look up Actually Hardcore Overclocking (Buildzoid’s channel) on YouTube there are a few videos on Ryzen 7000 memory overclocking and tweaking and there is one particular video on tweaking sub timings makes hell of a difference. Since my last post I’ve got my primary timings down to 30-36-36-30 and lowered voltages a bit too.

              Good luck.
