I will be overseas in the South Pacific early next year and will need to make work calls to Australia that could be up to 2 hours long. There will be numerous calls throughout a 3 week period.
A local sim is not an option as calls are like $1 per minute, so I am looking at roaming options.
Have done some research and it seems the $5/day roaming with Vodafone might be my best option.
However I am looking to clarify a couple of things:
Calls to Australian toll free numbers are generally exempt from any minute allocations when dialled from Oz. Reading the terms I believe that would be the same when calling from overseas. Does anyone know if my understanding is correct?
If the Vodafone plan includes unlimited talk in Australia, then this would also apply in the $5/day roaming?
Is there another option that I am missing. I have looked at some of the prepaid roaming options available but the most included minutes is something like 200 and that could be gone in one morning.
Thanks for any insight you might have.
Will you be connected to Wifi? If yes, you may want to consider BOOST/Telstra/Belong mobile sim card. No roaming needed (you read that correctly, no roaming purchase required), as long as you are connected to Wifi, you can call Australia.
Check this one for an example:

And if you are worried if that might not work, belong roaming (the paid one) is $30 for 2 weeks and you get 150 minutes on top of 3GB data, so, top up as you need
