[SUBS, Prime] Resident Evil: Death Island (2023) Now Streaming on Prime Video (Amazon)

1480

I was about to buy this movie, but realised that it has now been added to Prime, free for subscribers to watch.

65% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes

Been a fan of the animated Resident Evil movies, so I don't mind if the ratings aren't good. Zombie movies are always fun watch for me.

This one was pretty good ngl. Saw it in cinema. Kind of like Avengers type of movie but with all RE characters lol

    • +2

it had theatrical release in Australia ? did not know about it. but i really enjoyed this. Leon and Jill together was first in the canon story

      • +5

I'm pretty sure I've seen Leon and Jill together before, but i think that one didn't have a plot

      • +1

Yeah surprisingly it did. Perfectly passable as a RE action movie. The plot was literally there to put all the big dawgs together and Jill's appearance was really great. Aside from that it's just your run of the milk bad guy.

        • +2

Like Alex from Clockwork Orange? Or are we talking more a Homelander type?

          • +1

@freefall101: More like Bowser kidnapping Princes Peach kind of bad guy. Nothing major happened lol

  • Didn't really like this one compared to the other CGI movies.

  • -1

people still making resident evil movies ?

    • +23

Wait until you learn about Fast and furious

    • +1

only on Mondays and Thursdays :good_job:

    • +2

they should only make what you like

  • +1

I see Jill, I press play!

    • +1

      You sure it's not Leon?

  • +1

    Fully animated?

You'd think blizzard would do something like this with their cult franchises like warcraft, starcraft and diablo. All they've done are half ass live action movies that would probably cost them more to make.

    • +1

I've been wanting this too. but apparently their cinematics teams are too small. Takes about a year to make a 2-3 minute pre-rendered cutscene.

      • Cant imagine capcom have a bigger MC than blizzard/Activision combined.

        factchecked:

        Activision/Blizzard: 94.42bn USD
        Capcom: 33.46bn USD

        https://ycharts.com/companies/ATVI/market_cap
        https://ycharts.com/companies/CCOEF/market_cap

Triple the market cap and they don't have a cinematics team. The activision board must truly be held by some moneyhungry bloodsuckers.

        • This film was commissioned by one of Sony's subsidiaries, not Capcom. Sony owns the Resident Evil license for animated film/TV, and Capcom have pretty much washed their hands of the CG stuff since 2017.

Capcom only have a small in-house cinematics division and weren't involved in this film. The only input Capcom had was supervisorial.

Animation studios, Quebico and TMS Entertainment are who Sony selected to co-lead this film's production.

    • The armour in the WoW movie was CGI.

      • …wow /sarcasm

  • Jill & Leon together, Nice!!!

    • +4

Just need Ashley to arrive and keep clinging on to Leon now.

      • +1

LeeeoonnN!!! HAALLPP!!! Imagine that in a CGI movie lol

  • Love myself a resident evil movie

  • I've been wanting to see this for a while but not got around to it, so this is awesome to see. Probably gonna watch tonight.

  • +1

Nothing impressive but it's a watchable zombie flick. Spoiler alert: The villain's backstory is really weak.

  • Need to watch the previous movie or you wont understand some of the characters and storylines.

    • +2

Which one is the previous movie? Too many RE movies. And wouldn't we just know the background from RE games?

      • +1

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil:_Death_Island

Resident Evil: Vendetta - some of the villains are from the previous shows and are not in the games.

        • is Vendetta on prime too?
i want to make a movie night out of this.

      • +3
        • Resident Evil: Degeneration
        • Resident Evil: Damnation
        • Resident Evil: Vendetta
        • Resident Evil: Death Island (this one)

That's only 4 Resident Evil CG films released over the span of 15 years, that's relevant to the conversation.

Conveniently ignoring the Infinite Darkness mini-series because it's shite, and makes no sense either in timeline nor characterisation.

  • I didn't understand the overated Leon in all RE stories, he was a police officer that late to work on his first day.
Biohazard 3 was my childhood game, before it got copyright issue then renamed to Resident Evil 3, so I prefer Jill and Charlos. For some reason they rarely making story about Jill. I hope Carlos back, but even the game never mention him anymore.
Maybe Jill and Chris story would be better like how it was in the first game.

    • He is handsome.

    • +1

Have you played RE4? His corny one liners are what warmed me up to him.

    • +1

The first game was called Biohazard in Japan and SE Asia and Resident Evil everywhere else. It not a copyright issue, it's called marketing.

      • Wrong. Not marketing. Closer to copyright as it goes.

        Source = https://www.cbr.com/games-different-names-different-regions/…

      • Not just the first game. I remember my PS disk was Biohazard 3 Nemesis. Back then, I could not find Biohazard 1 and 2, but I know there was RE 1 and 2. I was not aware that it is the same game until the release of RE4.

There was a band called Biohazard in US that secure the copyright, so capcom forced to rename their game that release in US. Later, when regional release no longer applied, to avoid confusion (like what happen to me), they re-release all their game with the new name.

        • +2

I stand corrected. Sometimes Japanese games have weird titles that they think won't sell well overseas. I thought it might have fallen under that type of thing.

          • @Cheap Cheep: +1

I think it was a fair assumption for sure - hats off though for a decent reply rather than another internet forum responce such as 'no way i can be wrong - heres why blah blah blah'.

  • is there a certain order to watch these in

i really liked the old RE movies - expecially the lazer cutting scene - jaw dropping and still see it now

    • +2

We all loved that first movie and that scene. We been chasing that high ever since.

      • The soundtrack was top notch on that scene too

      • Until the director marry the actor. I wonder why capcom still make a contract with them, even messing with monster hunter movie.

  • +1

I hope Jill becomes a Jill Sandwich in this one

    • I swear this is always the first thing I remember when RE Jill comes up in any convo.

    • +1
      • ahhh the memories. i still recall playing the firs time thinking it was like the "Die Hard" games and had to turn off the power when i found kenneth!

  • wow as a RE fan this one really sucked haha

  • Can someone rank all RE in the order of worth watching?

    • Everyone will rank them differently.
