Upgrading the spring in this sounds crazy to me. It already has a relatively hefty "draw weight" by my experience.

Ok so my Kronos arrived today and I tested out these exact rounds. I fired all 50 and none of them jammed or misfired. Though you can see the QC is a stark contrast between official nerf rival rounds. First off, there is a obvious difference along each knockoff round. You'll see an uneven smooth textured "ring" along each ball whereas nerf brand ones are consistently textured. Some balls also feel lighter than others, resulting in some being less firm than the legit brand ones. Unless you are really into enthusiast level modding I don't see how it should really affect daily plinking around the house with kids, etc. But for those who want quality above all, stick to nerf, x-shot and dart zone if available.
Most of the EKIND/Headshot/Generic AliExpress and Amazon foam balls are very inconsistent IMO. The density varies a bit and many of the softer ones end up jamming.
The Dart Zone and XShot foam balls are pretty good though!

The muzzle energy exceeds the joule limit for toys that are sold from retail shelves, as another poster said not illegal to own.
AFAIK, Queensland is the only state or territory in Australia that allows ownership of gel blasters without falling under some form of firearms legislations.
Here in Victoria, it's apparently easier to get the licence for owning a real gun, than it is to get a replica firearms licence required for a vaguely realistic looking gel blaster.
It's a great gun, love the rival models.
Just be aware it may get delayed at customs like my second one has, so far it's been stuck there for 3 weeks…

Previously, I've bought them on eBay in bulk. Others use Amazon these days. The knock-offs aren't all equal though, so might be worth some research if you care about consistency of the rounds and similar.

I have a sample size of 1 (from the last deal) but it works flawlessly. Balls do tend to swing at longer ranges but it hits harder than the darts and cycles flawlessly. Much easier to load than darts. I bought a second one just then.
Nerf rival uses the same principle as gel blasters and airsoft using a hop up tab (small rubber piece at top in the barrel, of just inside the muzzle) to apply back spin to keep it stable before physics kicks in and any imperfections in the ammo or slight angle or projection out the muzzle make it arc, normally upwards after about 8-10 metres then gravity kicks in.
Balls are far less accurate then half darts can be and have a limit to the benefits of spring upgrades, but can be good indoors, except the clean up!

Relatively accurate at ~5-9m for hitting a person, but would struggle for smaller targets at greater distances, you would scare then fir sure, wouldn't advocate for actually shooting birds though.

indoors you can easily hit a target around the size of a dinner plate from 7-8m, probably more like a small side plate even to be honest. I haven't tried longer distances than that, and would expect them to start falling out of the air quite quickly beyond that range.
also find that its more accurate if you load one round at a time, they don't always feed perfectly.

From what I was reading it's about 20-30 feet (6.1-9.1m) before you start losing accuracy. From my experience throwing palm dates near the horny pigeons making booty calls at 6:30 in the morning you have to get quite close to make them understand you want them to shut up and leave. Given these shoot the balls very quickly I think it may be too dangerous for the birds to attempt this while keeping them safe; they also may not even notice them and you will inevitably lose some of the balls in your garden/surrounding area/trees. On the whole I would say it would be a very bad idea to use the gun for shooting birds. If you're determined to shoot them a water pistol is probably more kind to the birds
Common proposals I've seen are: spraying their perches with vinegar (unsuccessful); doing the same thing but infusing that vinegar with crushed red chilli flakes and other strong/spicy smells; hiring a falconer to come in and scare them away; buying a fake predator statue and moving it around every once in a while; tying CDs to branches which create spooky reflections they don't like and putting down anti-bird strips
If you have a big tree they love to roost/root in you could also consider cutting it down (I personally don't want ours to be removed because it would be dangerous, expensive and get rid of the homes for all the other birds that don't annoy me in the morning)
Anyone getting pissed off about me inaccurately throwing palm dates at pigeons can get off their phone or computer and go do something actually meaningful to help the environment instead of being a crybaby

There is always a chance someone's package doesnt get checked so some might make it through but i would expect most to not receive their order. At least the order is with Amazon and being sent back and refunded. Other companies might say it is your fault for ordering it without finding out if it was allowed and not refund or say you need to pay for the return shipping for them to refund.
