Le Creuset Price Query

I’m looking to replace most/all my cookware with Le Creuset items and I’m trying to figure out how good prices get on this brand.

I’ve scanned previous posts/deals for the brand, being a premium brand, prices do not seem to drop too much or too often… once in a while there seems to be a single item that will be available at a 30-40% discount.

Can anyone confirm this? If this is the case the current prices with multiple items packaged together seem attractive between $2-3K depending on which items are included.

  • It's worth considering purchasing internationally. I have often purchased from Selfridges.com when they have sales and I've also puchased from tattahome.com and saved a bit of money. With selfridges.com you can purchase a years worth of shipping which is handy… Tattahome seems expensive with shipping but it's not when you compare to Aus prices…

    • Thanks so much for this info. I ended up monitoring prices for a few months and spending a little over 1k on LC items from tattahome. These would have cost close to 2k for the same items (on sale) domestically. Much appreciated!

  • +1

Look at Staub as an option for the French ovens as well.

    We've got a money bag here! 😆

  • Better to get something like Aldi. Their cast iron stuff is just as good as LC and it's literally 10% of the cost.

    Cast iron is cast iron.

LC is a luxury brand for rich house wives that want to look rich, it's not the BIFL it used to be at the insane price point now.

    • I’ve heard quite the opposite from people that have owned both for long periods of time.

      • I've had four aldi cast iron enamel pieces for several years now. Total cost is $100. Even if they cave in today that's $100 well spent for almost daily use.

    • I have both and whilst both pots still function perfectly, there are considerable differences to the quality and enamel finish which is very much reflected in the difference in price.
The Aldi one shows its age, whereas the Le Creuset still looks 95% new. This is merely cosmetic but shows the difference in finish quality. Both pots are treated equally (the Le Creuset was actually even scorched once but was able to be slowly cleaned back to perfect condition).

I also hear of Le Creuset honouring warranty replacements (I haven't needed this myself), so there is significant goodwill to the brand
The thing I've noticed over the years is that Le Creuset has been drifting higher in prices, first for a 26cm Signature Dutch Oven moving from $300 to now $550+ over the years

Is the price difference worth it? I paid $15 for a dutch oven from Aldi and $20 for a long oven one. This would have been hundreds for each piece in LC.

  • Dont rule out auctions. So many times this stuff comes up either brand new or near new. Usually given as gifts that people dont want or cant use

  • Or if dont care about enamel go with Lodge.
