Over the last few months my kids have started playing Fortnite on our Xbox One X (not series X) and I've noticed that the Lobby in particular seems to use a lot of processing power as the fans really ramp up like a jet engine… a bit weird but perhaps understandable as the lobby graphics look reasonably detailed. The fans seem to quieten down a bit in game so I assume the lobby uses more processing power than the gameplay itself.
But…. this morning they had to join a Queue as the servers are busy, there is a static image on the screen and a timer and the fan has been running flat chat for like half an hour. Why on earth would a static image and a timer be using so much processing power to keep the fan running flat out?
This kind of reminds me of going to some dodgy website and finding your CPU/GPU usage skyrockets and then discovering there is a mining bot embedded in the page.
In the back of my mind I'm wondering if Fortnite has some hidden code that's creating a distributed server farm for mining or some other purpose. Tinfoil hat stuff I know, but stranger things have happened.
Anyone else ever looked into this a little deeper?
I’ve never noticed a difference but I’m on PS5. It would be easier to measure on PC.
