    Ok. Go AMD.

    I didn't think anyone was looking at intel's 14th gen?

    I mean, the 7800X3D is cheaper, generally better in games, has the same number of real cores, and has an upgrade path that takes you to 2026 with the same motherboard, memory, etc.. Whereas the 14th gen cannot be upgraded, and is recognised as costing more than the 13th gen for no benefit.

    7800X3D = $595
    14700KF = $639
    13700KF = $629

    Pretty obvious it should be AMD, and even if you have a gun to your head and are forced to buy intel - you wait and get a cheap 13th gen

    You said it yourself.

    I’d honestly go a 13700k over 14th gen - it’s pretty much the same performance.

    Although if it were me, going a new mobo and ram… I’d go AM5 w/ 7800x3d without a doubt

  • Its $602 for intel in what i linked, 80% will be gaming 20% other random crap. 7800x3d is tempting but no worthwhile deals / performance to go that route. I used to go for what can be upgraded, but looking back i have never upgraded, rather just put in new everything.

    • "no worthwhile deals"

      That's basically because they can sell them easily - because people recognise the value.

      And as for upgradability, with Intel its a joke because they engineer only two, closely spaced, generations. It makes no sense to upgrade. However I went from a 1700X to a 5900X, same motherboard, same memory (which I then doubled for a low cost), same cooler (AIO). Doubled the speed and gave it enough to reach Zen 7 (or whatever it ends up being called) before needing to swap out the MB, Memory, guts etc.in a total rebuild. We'll be well into the regime of AI chips by then.

      So the MB, memory, etc. will last from 2018 till 2026/7 - jumping from the beginning of one generation, to the end of that CPU socket (as a MLU), to the beginning of the next-but-one generation. Have you thought what you will be doing when games require 50+ TOPs of AI inference engine to work?

      Upgradability counts.

    the ram you linked sucks and is not even good value
    the cooler sucks
    this sounds harsh but you should do more research before buying
