  • Tempting.. I currently use an Xbox controller for Ryujinx, but needing an extra one. To buy this or to get a different one?

    • +4

      Different colour or different controller?

If you're playing a lot of switch games, might be worth getting a 8Bitdo or something with Japanese style AB/XY mappings.

I quite like the colour, makes me wanna go get a lime calipso 😋

      • My bad,I meant a different controller. I'll have to see if they're cheaper. Thanks for the heads up.

        • If all you want is cheaper, you can definitely do better but all the "cheapie" controllers I've bought have been various degrees of trash.

I don't have any 8BitDo stuff, but they run the gamut from about $20 to $100 and seem well regarded on OzBargain.

They got about 30 different controllers though and many have similar names and look similar…

        • 8bitdo Pro 2 is awesome. Not compatible with Playstation or Xbox but compatible with everything else.

    • +1

I use this one on PC. IT has hall effect gimbles….

      https://www.amazon.com.au/PXN-Wireless-Controller-Compatible…

      • Would love to find a reliable controller like this but compatible across Nintendo, XBOX, PS and PC. If it was bulletproof reliable and I knew it’d last a decade I’d pay upwards of $150.

        • Decade is a bit long.

This one has been good for me. I use it extensively for rocket league which is very very button heavy. I use all the buttons constantly so lets see how long it lasts.

          • @Naigrabzo: Out of all of the controllers I've used, the Nintendo Switch Pro controller and also 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth controller have been the most precise in regards of controlling the car on both ground and in air. Also the Xbox 360 controller.

I want to get good at the ps5 version but the controller doesn’t fit in my hand properly + I find it too stiff.

            • @hawktalk: Hey man, thanks. What rank are you?

I find the switch pro is not great on my PC due to lag? I can't seem to dribble with it. Haven't tried 8bitdo or 360 though.

With the PXN on PC, I find it much easier to dribble and even just control the car in general. I am not good at aerial play.

However I seem to sometimes miss the second flip in the air at times with the PXN. Maybe the A button is not as responsive I don't know.

Do you find the bluetooth to lag on PC? I haven't tried it yet although the PXN as bluetooth built-in.

              • @Naigrabzo: I own a Switch Pro controller which now has stick drift, joycons which have stick drift, and a new Microsoft Xbox series X controller which has just recently got stick drift. I’m pretty busy, don’t get to play often and don’t play rough with them, probably manage 200 hours game time per year. I just want something that lasts

                • @ZJack: Hmm. I am now up to 1500 hours on Rocket League. Not sure how long the pxn will last. If it breaks in the next year I will try to return via Amazon.

              • @Naigrabzo: Oh the 8bitdo (what I now primarily use on pc) has a dongle for wireless connection, it also has a switch for bluetooth connectivity. I've got the pc/Switch version of the controller and bave used it for both.

I'm only Platinum ranked can usually get to Diamond by the end of the season. I'm happy enough with my skillset (excellent ground game, barely competent in air lol).

I've not tried the Switch Pro Controller on pc. I play the Switch version of Rocket League a lot (in part because of how easier it is with the controller). My winning percentage was increasing exclusively on that platform… but then I merged the pc/ps/Switch stats into one epic account and I became less super human (60ish - borderline 70%).

                • @hawktalk: Thanks man.

Interesting. Food for thought indeed. If and when mine breaks, I will keep those options in mind.

I found switch to be laggy and inconsistently so. I would miss shots constantly. It could be my TV of course.

Once I switched to PC (165hz monitor and wired controller) and got used to new controller I have gone from Plat 1 to Diamond 1 in one month. Last season I was Plat 3 and as you know there was a massive derank almost back to Gold 4.

If you are playing 2s and don't get tilted, I am keen to team up in Comp. I am using parts of the Pacifist system…. I play around 10pm to 11pm ish Sydney time.

      • Would it work with android phone ?

        • Yes, via bluetooth

  • +1

I want to use it for PC if only the dongle ver. Was on sale 😪

    • +1

Will have Bluetooth? Only downside I believe is no headphones via controller, only via the official dongle.

    • it was on sale during the black Friday- cyber monday period on ebgames ebay store. $89 - BFDEAL = $71.2

but seems to gone up now though to 109.95 - BFDEAL = 87.96

Maybe wait boxing day sales to see if it will return.

    • Whats the different with dongle version? (Other than dongle it self) I use this on my PC with no problem, I am looking for the second controller, will it worth to upgrade to dongle version?

      • I dont have much issue as well with my xbone controller on the PC bluetooth but these are supposedly the dongle difference.

"wireless stereo sound support, and the ability to connect up to eight controllers at once"

    • +3

Works perfectly fine on PC with bluetooth. I don't have a dongle and have never had an issue.

Is this the same - $42.99

    Looks like a copy ?

    • +2

Yeah theres no "x" in the middle circle

    • +3

The house icon on the home button should give it away.

      Def not genuine.

    • +2

They even admit it's not legitimate in the second picture of the slideshow

      • +1

They certainly do, my bad - Missed it completely.

  • Code does not work here, any tricks?

"This code can't be applied to your order."

    • I just checked and it just worked for me. The T&Cs mention something about a maximum of 5 transactions with the code.

  • Do you need a special dongle to use this with a PC? If so how much are they?

    • You can connect via bluetooth if your PC has that.

      • +1

It's very finicky though. Would recommend the dongle.

        • Dongle also has lower input latency.

    • If possible go wired for lowest latency.

    • +3

Mate, for casual gaming I've never had an issue connecting these to a pc.
Work fine, no dongle required. No drop outs, no lag, they just work like they would on the Xbox. I play a lot of my Xbox games on Game Pass on the PC. Absolutely no issues.

Try it first before buying the dongle, you'll see.

      • Not to mention the convenience of wireless. Wired is a pain but I need it for low latency.

  • if only playstation 5 would come down this cheep

    • +2

You still need to buy the battery for xbox controller. So Dualsense for $67 look fair

      • +7

If only there was a rechargeable AA that everyone on ozbargain owned hundreds of..

        • I know, I just said that the $4 different between dualsense and xbox controller is fair.

      • +1

Panasonic Eneloops are perfect for Xbox controllers

  • +2

I find the brighter colours easier to find when 'lost' in the lounge room by the kids.

Blue's Red's this Lime colour… much easier to see instead of the plain black or white ones that blend in with everything else in there.

    • Agree about visibility!

I paid $59 for a Xbox Series X Astral Purple Wireless Controller from Ebgames - free pickup was 20% off on ebay a few days ago

They had the black ones for $54

  • I've got the exact one, paid about $80? a year back.
Works great, I use it wired, haven't tried Bluetooth yet.

  • This black controller seems cheaper at $60.05 with coupon 'BF22AU'.

    • No original packaging

    • Could be a fake

      • Fair enough…

  • +1

New Xbox controllers aren't far away. This is tempting but I'll wait for the new ones

    • Hall effect?

  • what is a good lithium ion battery to replace the AAs with? I liked the Bone controller, but hated that it used AAs. I like being able to just plug the cable in and charge it that way, instead of having to remove the batteries, put it in a Nimh charger, then get spare batteries and put them in. Even though the charge lasted longer, the convenience of charge plugging meant I my DS controller never ran out of juice anyway.

    • +1

I use Panasonic Eneloops for everything in my house.. they charge in 1.5 hours (smart fast charger) and last ages.. they are 7 years old now and still work great.. no issues at all. Never had to buy a new one.. also my xbox controllers with Eneloop batteries last 3 times as long as my 7 year old PS4 controllers. The batteries in those also dont hold onto a charge as well as these replaceable ones.. maybe the ones in the PS4s are chinese batteries and not Japanese. Anyways built in batteries are not always the best.

      • I used eneloops also. They lasted 2-3 days, but it was still a hassle to have to remove, replace and charge them.

The DS controllers didn't last nearly as long, but as long as I don't drain them completely in one session, they will always be charged up fully before my next session so the longer battery life of eneloops didn't matter.

I don't use controllers for 7 years. The sticks never last that long, so that doesn't matter either. Or something else breaks. They aren't built to last. I typically replace them once a year.
