Mercedes C250 Servicing - Am I Being Fooled?

Hi all, I usually get my car serviced in MB Sydney.

Jan 2023 I did Service A $750 and found out service B is $850. Today while booking my annual servicing “Service B1” I got a quote of $1330.

What’s service B1 vs Service B for a W205, 2017 car?

I might be fooled or MB just doubled their pricing.

The way they are presenting these services is designed and named so they can fool you.

Seems like they want to give the least amount of information they possibly can and at the same time they can charge you whatever they want with you none the wiser.

Maybe ask them what the difference between each service is, or ask them for a printout for what they are offering for each price point.

I guess you already have the pricing for BS

He probably likes the coffee and biscuits in the waiting room.

      • I'd like them too but not having a Mercedes at the moment or even one being serviced, they are throwing up the customers only rule.

Seriously though I used https://www.mbsandersons.com.au while the Warranty and then moved on.

Check your log book it will be in there.

The Mercedes tax on an oil filter and oil change, ouch

Question to ask here is, if the car is 2017 model, why are you still getting it serviced at Stealership & not an independent?

    • 100% This.

  • +7

I think they've been fooling you since 2017.

  • Thank you guys. I’ve decided not to go to stealership.

Could you please recommend a good Eurocar service station in Sydney South West (Holsworthy NSW 2173) area?

    I found Bosch Service https://ptaautomotive.com.au

Not sure if they are good.

i use to have an MB, sold it because of all the none sense crap they do to try to get even more money from you.
anyways, i bought brand new and didn't think the stories of it being unreliable wouldn't apply to me since i purchased brand new. sigh, i was wrong. very expensive to do anything on that piece of crap.

    • What car did you buy to replace the Merc?

      • +1

i went back to japanese, i have a lexus ls now

  • BWM and Mercedes are always costly in the service department. So sounds about right.

That's the difference between proper preventative maintenance and just servicing. Euros have a higher ongoing cost of ownership. They are very reliable, but this is dependent upon preventative maintenance. Oil changes don't cut it.

      • +2

LOL Far from it. Euros are not more reliable. Old BWM/Mercs are well known for being unreliable and costly pieces of crap.

Give me a 15 year old Toyota vs a 15 year old BMW/Merc. At least it won't break down and cost $5k to fix twice a year.

        • I specialise in these cars. Euros are very reliable if proper preventative maintenance is done. They are not simple cars like toyotas. Plenty of people can afford them, but then they cut costs on servicing and maintenance, which always leads to trouble. Thats why you never buy a Euro that doesn't have a complete dealer or specialist service history.

@thesilverstarman: If you can't afford a new euro then you definitely can't afford a used one.

              @MS Paint: Too true!

            • @MS Paint: Apply that to any car really but with the sheer volume of luxury brand cars that have been sold over the last 10-15 years in Australia.

The number of people who buy a secondhand one then realise the costs of ownership after the fact will be amusing.

LOL Sure any car is reliable if you spend $5k twice a year doing preventative maintenance changing all the things that might break.

The point was, other cars are reliable without needing this level of preventative maintenance aka cost.

thats why you never buy a Euro that doesn't have a complete dealer or specialist service history.

Oh the irony…. So they are only reliable if fully serviced. ok then, my comment stands. BWM/Merc are always costly in the service department, as like you said, you need to do far more to them to keep them running other than just change the oil/filter like other brands.

      • Euros, particularly BMW and Merc, were very very reliable up until the mid to late 90s (depending on the model). As a very rough guide Merc started going downhill in build quality around the time the w210 was launched and BMW the e65. Euro's reliability, from my experiences, tend to be electrical gremlins which are worse than mechanical ones to fix.

Unfortunately for the older cars, no matter how reliable you may be, time will catch up to you

        They are very reliable

Yeah that's why they depreciate so much and you can get an S CLASS Mercedes for the cost of a new MG Chinese car

        Lol

  • Service department says big bucks servicing means big bucks off the tax return 👍

  • 2017 car? Unless you got any reason to stay (if it is a problem proned model and you want good will repairs) take it to a specialist.

A specialist might be 70% of the price. The Euro premium is real.

  • B service is oil (full synthetic), oil filter, wiper blades, top up all fluids, safety check, cabin filter, brake fluid change.
B1 is a B service plus any item that is due outside of these, eg air filter, coolant change, spark plugs etc

  • What’s service B1 vs Service B for a W205, 2017 car?

    $480

    • Nice Maths flex

  • -3

You're being fooled. Buy electric, no servicing costs.

  • What’s service B1 vs Service B for a W205, 2017 car?

What was their explanation? You asking Toyota dealerships a MB question. Wrong forum.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking, B1?

If you only you bought the high yield investment AMG spec.
My mum's brother's son's daughter's mechanic mates tells me they actually pay you to service your car.

  • Check your service book. The first 15-20 pages list what's due at what km/time interval, which should give you a rough idea.

Let me guess…brake fluid is due ($50ish for the brake fluid alone, ~$80 or so in labour), cabin filter (easily over $100), maybe they've managed to charge you $100ish for the wipers or maybe a set of spark plugs too ($30ish each plus labour).

Let's not forget they charge $250+ an hour. B is about 2-2.5 hours. Charges you $25-30/L for oil…it bloody adds up real quick.

If you're bored, have a play with this thing, it spits out what's needed based on last service and mileage:

  • My place always asks about doing add-ons. It money for jam for them.

  • I have a 2017 GLC 250 which has been flawless since new (other than initial issue with front wheel crabbing at full lock which was fixed under warranty).

I have approached some independents in my area and felt they were more dodgy than the stealerships, so I have kept going back to my local dealer for hassle free servicing.

However, I don't let them add any service items without my prior authorisation which keeps costs right down. Any auxiliary items such as air filters, spark plugs, brakes, I have purchased myself online and fitted them at home for a fraction of the cost.

  • What does your service manual say?

  • The yield on your investment vehicle is getting smaller I'm afraid :(

  • Guys so called my stealership he said now he would charge me B service for $895 and the brake fluid will be $195. My car has never given any trouble since I bought and it’s always been serviced by Stealership.

The only recent issue I got is my boot doesn’t close with a press of a button. It closes like half way and I have to press again to close it. Not sure if there’s a reset button or the hydraulic pump is at fault. I can change settings from the dash settings to open half way or full but the issue is closing the boot.

I’m not sure if other mechanics can fix this issue.

I looked into few local service centres in South West. They sound dodgy or didn’t bothered responding to my emails and messages.

Someone mentioned “ Heng’s Garage” their recent reviews are pretty bad. Also called Bosch Car Service - PTA Automotive Moorebank he didn’t bother responding but has good reviews.

Any other options for me to look into near me NSW 2173?

    • Why didnt you do that in first place 💁

      • What do you mean?

        • You could ring the dealership, ask questions, negotiate or find a better service centre than just asking here.

  • I’m trying to find a reputable Mercedes service provider which will look after my car and replace parts with good quality parts but not charge me a lot like the stealership.
Any suggestions on a nearby place close to where I live would be much appreciated.

My MB stealership already gave me the best quote which seems very high for service B.

The trunk issue I’m facing not sure how much they would charge.

    • You asking from the wrong forum, try MB forum or Facebook group. The only comments you get here is WTF you bought a Merc lol
Ozb, bargain hunters, don't buy Merc, they get Toyota/Tesla, one that goes from A to B, look like a fridge, cheap to maintain:)

      • Haha I get you now. I’ll check on MB Australia forum. I don’t use FB.
