Amazon Return Policy - Packaging Must Be Unopened and Seals Intact?

Amazon return policy states that "Packaging must be unopened and seals intact".

Does that mean if I have opened the package (clear sticker removed), then the item cannot be returned due to change of mind? Sounds a bit strict.

returned due to change of mind? Sounds a bit strict.

change of mind returns dont require you opening the product.
Also retailers arent required to do change of mind returns and do so as a customer service, so can put whatever reasonable conditions they want on those returns

If they sent it to you with the sticker broken, would you accept it as “new”?

    Still think it’s strict?

    • Depending on the product, Amazon aren't reselling the product, in fact most of it just goes straight to landfill.

      • I hardly think for something like a high end phone that Amazon is going to write it off as “landfill” over a broken security seal and a change of mind return.

        • Great observation there pegaxs

Notice I said "depending on the product"

  • If the item is not sealed, Amazon could only sell it through "Amazon Warehouse" with "as new" at a discount price.

and someone would have to wear that loss of it being sold as a discount. Is that fair because the OP changed their mind? So now the seller is out shipping and selling the product at a discounted price.

  • If I bought a brand new product and it wasn't new, I'd be pissed.

  • What would you do if you got the same NEW product with a broken seal? I am 99.9999% sure you would complain that it is NOT new and ask for a new product. Amazon are within their rights for a change of mind to ensure that the product being returned can be sold as new.

  • the item cannot be returned due to change of mind? Sounds a bit strict.

Change of mind returns are at the discretion of the seller if they accept or not.

In this case, they want the item to be resellable if you 'change your mind.

You do have all the time in the world to think about if this purchase is right for you though, BEFORE you buy it.

As others have said, think before you buy it, add last line of defense think before you open it, return cost for change of mind should be payable by you.

What is the product in your example?

  • ACL states they don't legally have to return a product if you have changed your mind, would you as a business accept a opened product then have to sell as a loss as it's not new ?
