A couple of years ago now Mosfilm - a Russian film studio that will celebrate it's 100th anniversary early next year - started a YouTube channel and have regularly been adding films from their back catalog with English subtitles.
While the majority may be of limited interest to most people, many are among the greatest films ever made. There are several of Andrei Tarkovsky's films available (Stalker and The Mirror are particularly stunning), Propaganda classic Battleship Potemkin from Sergei Eisenstein, and Dersu Uzala, a Russian production directed by the one and only Akira Kurosawa. Alternatively, the sci-fi comedy Kin-dza-dza!, "Eastern" (as opposed to Cowboy Western) adventure White Sun of the Desert, or drama Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears would all be good starting points.
There are also film and mini-series adaptations of various Russian literary classics like War and Peace and Anna Karenina which might be of interest, and there's actually quite a lot of new stuff to go with the old.
