Cheapest I have ever seen them. I bought them in black when they dropped just below $300. 3xCamels history isn't synced only shows $500+.
Original price on release was $880 with some places still selling them at that price they are dreaming.
App is FLAWED - read opinions below for details.
other than that google results show them for roughly $499+ at Australian stores.
I have these headphones so I can answer any questions, but I will do my best to include all my opinions below.
First what's in the box? The headphones and USB charging cable that also functions as digital audio connection to PC. That's it, if you were expecting more now you know so you won't be disappointed. For zero latency wireless PC use you need to buy the USB dongle separately it's not included. They connect to Xbox directly so that's covered, just know the battery life when connected to Xbox is only 12 hours. if you use them with bluetooth only (not Xbox) which is what I do you get 24 hours.
Second these headphones definitely have flaws which are all app related. I bought them for bluetooth use for tablet and movies and they work fine for that use. I paid somewhere close to $299. The app had bugs and some of them have been fixed but one still remains.
The first bug was a popup that comes up and asks you to "confirm ownership" by tapping on the side of the headphones. this literally kept popping up I probably done it 20 30 times I lost count. and it doesn't popup straight away so you have to wait for it to come up, why? because until you confirm ownership half of the headphone settings are greyed out and you can't adjust everything.
this happened for about a week before somehow it stopped happening, and I could access all settings as soon as I opened the Beoplay app. but seems like a serious issue for a $800 headphone that was released in 2021. I expected all "bugs" to be fixed when buying in 2023.
So this is the other bug that still exists to this day, everytime I charge the headphones to full and turn them back on the EQ gets set back to default "OPTIMAL" in the app. and it's happening before I connect it to the App I can tell because I have the custom EQ set to have really strong bass.
2 years later and this bug still hasn't been detected and fixed, I feel like it shouldn't be a bug in a $300 headphone I imagine those who paid $800 are fuming.
I am experiencing this with the latest version of the app and the headphones firmware up to date.
oh and the custom EQ is in the shape of a circle not your typical graphic equalizer shape, there is a learning curve but I got the hang of it quickly and achieved amazing customized sound. bass extends very deep and is impactful amazing for movies like Dune and The Creator. mids and treble are nice and clear.
other than that, I already mentioned battery life is on the shorter side. 24 hours with Bluetooth which is long enough for me I only need to charge it once a week sometimes I can go longer. I actually tested by timing total Bluetooth use, I got 13 hours total until battery was 50% so I can confirm what is claimed is accurate. but with Xbox connection it only lasts 12 hours, not good IMO.
other things I like, earpads are extremely soft and comfy and big enough. at first the clamping force felt a bit tight but it improves quickly until it's just right and stays securely on your head while being comfortable. typical Beoplay build quality and materials I can't complain. charges via USB-C. supports digital wired audio via USB-C and charges while in use. I like the fact powering on button (just a single button) turns it on and off with quick press, no holding down to power like other bluetooth headphones. Multipoint works great with 2 devices which is my use case. when switching on it auto connects to whichever device is closest and you are interacting with.
the touch controls work, but the you get huge jumps on the volume side it's too sensitive so I use the volume buttons on the tablet instead. touch control for ANC is fine because there are only a few levels and it's easy to control up or down. ANC is… ok. it definitely cuts lower frequencies very well you can notice it straight away, but it doesn't completely cancel higher sounds like people talking/music.
oh one more thing, especially for movies I noticed I have to turn the volume up quite high. movies are known to have more dynamic range so this is typically the case, but with the Portals I watch movies with them set at like 90% volume. The good thing is it doesn't seem to negatively affect battery life at all, but it did feel a bit odd at first having volume so high but you get used to it.
I think I included everything. ask me a question if you read until here and I haven't mentioned it.
Thanks for the detailed write-up !
