Hard to Book Restaurants in Sydney

Hi all! I'm building a little app for my girlfriend and I to scrape restaurant bookings for hard to book restaurants in Sydney.

So far I've come up with:-

Firedoor,
Yoshiis Omakase.

Are there any other places that OzBargainers have a hard time booking?

Thanks in advance.

Sizzler, The black Stump, el Caballo Blanco. They never return any of my calls for reservations.

      Same with Maccas….

You really are wearing a bit thin with your inane comments!

      • Who books! Always a table for me when I rock up!

  • Cheap Hotels (used to be a thing before Covid) and there was:
HotelQuickly and https://www.hoteltonight.com or their App still works.

Their main objective is to sell rooms that would otherwise be empty.

On the dining side, Quandoo was OK and Liven.com.au with Abacus, OrderUp, Copper & Zeemart.

  • And how will your app "secure" these bookings?

    • Back in 2014 a startup called ReservationHop did this, using fake names (and AI, maybe, it's been a while since I've read about them) to mass book restaurant tables and then attempt to sell them off ("pay the fee to find out what fake name you will be eating as").

It went about as well as you could expect.

Can confirm - I took up the booking of Guy Incognito and got thrown out of a fine ale establishment.

      • idea was to just notify users/ subscribers when something is available, by email or similar. they can log in to book right away

        • Interesting idea, I suppose the tricky part is how to obtain that data from the restaurant on a timely basis. How do you find out how many tables are available at X on Saturday night?

          • @Crow K: Current implementation is scraping the booking site, day by day, then after a set number of days report back to me.
I guess it would be hard to find out how many tables are available, but for my purposes its generally any table of 2 after 6pm at night, any day of the week. I've uploaded an mvp www.resoboy.com.

            • @Revness: Fair enough, good luck with the implementation!

heres a tip .. start here and work your way down the list to see what their reservation wait times are :

    • thanks man. good idea

  • …hard to book restaurants in Sydney.

What's your definition of "hard to book"? Are you talking about trying to book "the night before" or trying to make a booking three months out? Are you referring to Thursday nights? Friday nights and weekends? Lunch? Dinner?

Because any decent fine dining restaurant will require a certain amount of planning to get a booking. But it depends on when you want that booking.

    • What's your definition of "hard to book"?

As in I forgot to book and want to go tonight for a party of 8!

      :)

All these 'hard' to book places have bookings far out in advance, so if you want to go, book now and your time will come.

    • At the moment its pretty much just hard to get a reservation at anytime when reservations are open. For example firedoor has had like <2 booking slots open in the next 100days for as long as i've checked

  • Hard or impossible? Ozbargain is probably wrong place to ask this question lol

    Cafe Sydney
    Restaurant Hubert
    Quay
    Sushiooe (impossible)

    • i fail to see how an app will help you get a booking at Quay.

    • hubert has some bookings here and there, so does quay.
sushioe doesnt have a reservation system i can track as far as i can see.
I'll add cafe sydney to the app and check.. thanks!
