    • That is not reason to post a negative on the discounted high end laptop.

Don't understand where the value is here. 4090 Laptops have been as low as $3200, and this is a 4080 Laptop that costs almost $5k.

    • Yes and no. Having from someone who jumped on the omen deal, and got a 4090 zephyrus duo:

4090 omen 17 does cheap out on a lot of stuff - its an 13700hx (~22k vs 35k cinebench r23 stock), uses the same chassis as 2021 - so two year old at this point, and panel is definitely way below average as 2021 legion 5 pro screen is better (QHD+ 165hz and HDR400, the omen 17 isnt 16:10 and dont get HDR400).

Duo packs a lot of the premium in the screen - miniled HDR1000 and decently calibrated 100% p3 with colour space switching doesnt come cheap, neither the touchscreen second panel - three generation of the duo (and the zenbook duo) and its been optimised for adobe apps quite well now, definitely useful for those that needed the two screen on the go (and more convinent in such a usecase, as compared to an external monitor)

      Of course, theres the other nice to haves, the extra cooling from the screenpad, the metal chassis, best in class audio, windows hello face id, etc, which you all need to factor into the price here;

If you are a gamer, no reason to go with this, but this fits in a niche that other laptops dont cover at all, hence the premium.

Alienware m16 7845hx 4080 for 3800 cheaper. Use code fort7 to get 7 percent off

    • +1

you know you stuffed up when even Alienware is much cheaper

Though that is an 8 core CPU and not 16 cores

        M16 13900hx 24C/32T 4080 32GB $3994
        M16 13900hx 24C/32T 4090 64GB $4854

With code FORT7. Pretty sure cashrewards has 10 percent cash back also.

        Still way better deals.

        Personally i bought an m18 with 7945hx 7900M 32GB for 3500..

        • Also Aorus 17X 4080 is 3699 at scorptec also a good deal. Though their screens brightness omly getting 250 nits is a downfall but battery life is very good.

          • @bekirk: Yeah i read lots of reviews, seems all the latest Aorus laptops all got very low brightness, which is bad for my old eyes … so really can't pick them.

  • Lenovo is selling a very similar laptop for $3700. That's almost $1200 less than this "deal"

    • 13900hx+ consumes 40% more power and performance is worse if you are a content creator.

      • Thoigh amd runs hotter by 10c apparently. And amd idles at higher wattage. Amd is killer if they can get their temps under control.

    • Lenovo is selling a very similar laptop

The Lenovo seems to be missing the second screen?

  • Lenovo and HP have better options, no deal here

    • Depends, if you are a content creator the two screens and better CPU will benefit in this laptop.

      • Possibly on the go, but otherwise a full size top end curved monitor can be had with the saving which is better for any workflow than the very niche mini screen

  • Who on earth at this kind of high interest rate atmosphere will spend $5k on a 4080 laptop?

Got the 4090/64gb model for a bit under 7 grand. This does have its advantages over other dell/hp models that people are putting out here:

    • main display is HDR1000 miniled and 100% p3 and supports display colour mode switch - its just a touch under 100% adobe argb machines (which are also very expensive) - your typical gaming laptop doesnt have that

    • after the years, the screenpad is well adapted to use with the near full range of adobe apps - if you have need for such a workload on the go - it is very handy (and better than an external monitor in these situations), in general if you do audio work, edit videos professionally or is an artist - this is just about perfect, if not a bit heavy (but zenbook duos dont pack the specs, obviously)

    • nice to haves - stuff like windows face unlock and the such is obviously bog standard to these, but you also get best in gaming laptop audio setup, omen and alienware does cheap out a lot here

And this is coming from someone who have jumped on the omen 17 deal. This is certainly not best price to performance, but not the same thing and doesnt suit the same target audience.

    • Excellent balanced commentary as always sir!
I learnt my comment above was a little ignorant and there is use cases, albeit would be relatively niche I imagine

      • +1

Yep it fits in a very small niche, and asus can get away with this markup since they are about the only one making a 'servicable' dual screen laptop for now - every other brands attempt is only more 'gimmicky' to speak of.
