thanks for posting this - i'm currently in a process of deciding if I should get one of these or invest into a higher model with DC motor.

Reviews and articles say not worth it unless you're borderline commercial.

      • yeah probably, there is 5 year warranty anyway so should be fine.

    • No worries. I just bought one

    • I went the DC motor bowl lift one. There is a significant difference if you're kneading dough as it's designed to use a dough spiral instead of hook. I find this catches the dough much easier and pushes down to knead rather than pushing it against the edge of the bowl like the hook. You can get a spiral for the tilt one but it strains the lift mechanism as it's not designed for it. It also handles larger quantities of dough and the motor doesn't seem to struggle at all. My parent's tilt one gets way hotter with much less in it. If you're just mixing cake batter or beating cream there's probably not much difference.

      • the only model with DC motor (in stock) seems to be the commercial one, the other ones have been discontinued (ksm7581), don't know why

        • That's interesting. Looks like the new KSM70 has replaced it at a lower price point. The stats say the motor is 1.5x more power than before, but the * indicate they're comparing it to the 5KPM5 model which is another AC model, not the DC Proline 7. Would be interesting how they compare, not that I'd change as the KSM7581 does what I need with ease!

          • @thestig: It’s been discussed to death on Reddit. Everyone is pretty disappointed it’s not a DC motor. (Well, technically it could be, because it’s a universal motor, but KitchenAid decided to drive it with AC circuitry). In reality, it doesn’t seem to make a huge difference to performance. The DC ones are always going to be quieter and more powerful. But not enough t to I warrant the extra $$$ for my use case. If it’s a commercial outfit, yeah, spend on a DC model.

            • @ASR-Briggs: I did a pile a research when I bought the KSM7581 in Dec last year and everything pointed towards the DC motor but haven't really read about them since so interesting to hear the changes and glad I bought it when I did.

At the time it seemed the commercial one was the same machine as the KSM7581 but had an orange cord, wire shield and only had a 1 year commercial warranty vs a 5 year home warranty for the ksm7581so the commercial one made no sense for home use.

I don't think I'd buy any KA for commercial dough kneading, there's much bigger more powerful mixers out there for that!

              • @thestig: Yeah, there's literally a $500 delta between what the KSM7581 sold for and what the KSM70 is selling for LOL. I think I will find a way to be okay with the AC motor hahah

What’s the difference between classic and artisan model?

    • +1

      Classic is less powerful

  • $559 with ebay plus:

STRONGLY considered, but ultimately pulled the trigger on the more powerful KSM70 off the official website on Friday when they had 10% cashback (and the KSM70 is reduced by $400)
