Help Me Choose a Christmas Present for Myself

I've had a good year and in the fortunate position to buy myself one of the following items for Xmas. Which one of these would you choose?

  • Sony Playstation 5 Disc Version - With Ghost of Tsushima (Always wanted to play it)
  • Quest 3 - I had a Lenovo VR system and enjoyed until I smashed it playing Thrill of the Fight
  • Enya NexG 2 smart guitar - hopefully to rekindle my love of playing guitar. https://www.enya-music.com/products/nexg-2-black

Bear in mind that I have a baby coming in March so I might not be able to use any of these lol. Thanks

Congrats. Get as much, ehmm, intimate time as you can get. You won't be getting any for a while after the arrival. Worry about the toys during the drought.

I'm usually critical of people on here asking for advice as to what to buy a 3rd cousin, or a mother-in-law, or a nephew of a good friend, etc., when no-one on here knows anything about that person, their likes or dislikes, etc.

This post takes it to a whole new level.

    • I talked enough about myself and what I like, so what do you think about me and what I will like?

OP: get some good bluetooth NC earbuds.

Imo ps5, at least you can sit there while baby sleeps and play.

That guitar will not rekindle your love for playing guitar so I'm saying PS5.

As someone who has been playing guitar on and off for basically my entire life, rekindling the love of it right before having a kid isn't a great idea. You'll either get into it and not be able to play for the first year of the kid's life because at least one person will be sleeping or you've burnt $700 on a guitar that sits in the cupboard but you won't sell it because you'll keep dreaming that you'll learn then be able to teach your kid guitar then they'll hate it to because it's a weird looking guitar and they just want an electric guitar/space guitar from the future.

Long story short, buy the PS5 and the cheapest acoustic guitar you can find to see if you really want to play again.

    • Thanks, I think you might be right. I do have a cheap Yamaha but a string broke and the machine heads don't seem to work anymore. Might just get that repaired.

  • Its the PS5 for me

  • Help Me Choose a Christmas Present for Myself

    Definitely WOTOBE

  • None

  • I vote for a silent guitar. One that you can play lullabies very softly while your baby is falling asleep.

As a parent to a newborn you will need to squeeze in me time.

Learning and enjoying guitar while bonding and settling newborn. Two birds one stone.

If that guitar can play really quietly then thats the one.
    Otherwise a different one.

    • Hey kid, here’s wonderwall

Don't laugh, my son used Slipknot as "white noise" for his daughter when she was newborn.

  • I saw a device that lets any electric guitar simulate sounds and pedals into headphones. I'd pick that first and use a proper guitar. Sorry can't remember what it's called.
    Maybe this stuff. https://www.guitarplayer.com/gear/best-headphones-amps-for-g…

    • Thanks I didn't know that was a thing. Looking into it

      • The beauty is you get to listen to how wonderful you sound with cranked up pedals and the family, newborn and neighbors don't need to suffer through the truth. Don't wanna teach that kid to hate those classic riffs.

  • Thrill of the fight (standalone Quest version) now has a Mixed Reality mode so you can see the room you are in while you fight.

    • Oh that's awesome.

  • Initially I was going to say "guitar" because a good guitar is probably going to last longer than the PS5 & Quest 3. Then I saw it's Enya NEXG aka a plastic guitar stuffed with electronics. Nah, just get a PS5.
