Goldcross Cycles is having a massive “end of season clearance” (more on this below). They have a list of specials online, broken down by store, for Victoria and banana-bending Queensland.
Note that their website states that these specials are available in-store only (no delivery available), but you might want to try anyway.
Some of the prices are exceptional. If you can in fact order online, there is a flat rate $7 delivery fee, even for multiple items, to anywhere in Australia, plus a free post-purchase professional service on every bike purchased. You might be able to get another 10% off your first purchase by joining Club Goldcross.
They also have an eBay store which may enable you to avoid delivery charges/restrictions altogether. They have also placed some ads on BikeExchange.
Several items that jump out at me include:
Folding bikes, including the Nitro 20” for $99.50, the subject of a previous OB deal and beating the recent Aldi offering.
Mountain bikes, including their Flight Trail 1 for $349.50 which includes disc brakes, or their Flight Trail 3 for $249.00.
For the ladies we have the Flight Amsterdam Hybrid Bike for $99.00 (was $299). That’s a big discount, and when you see it, you’ll see why.
Scooters are also heavily discounted.
For those who don’t need a bike, but want to be part of the action, there’s a few tools on sale, but most accessories are not discounted.
My only connection with this retailer is as an occasional customer.
BACKGROUND
I believe many of the sale items are triggered not so much by an “end of season clearance”, but by a major restructure that is currently underway for the group that owns Goldcross, especially with the introduction of AMart stores into Victoria. My favourite line from this article that discusses the changes: “…increased global price transparency will create deflationary price (and category value) pressures…”. That is, pressure from online sales.
For those interested Goldcross is part of ‘The Super Retail Group’, comprising Supercheap Auto, BCF (Boating Camping and Fishing), Goldcross Cycles, Ray's Outdoors, Rebel Sport, AMart All Sports and FCO (Fishing Camping and Outdoors) (NZ). That’s a big operation…
Competition in the bike game at the moment is intense. Given the circumstances, I wouldn’t expect another sale quite like this for a while. Not sure when the fat lady sings…
