Tyre Recommendations for 2016 Subaru Outback - 225/60 R18

Hi all, just looking for suggestions on a set of tyres for my Subaru Outback (2016, 2.5i Prem).

I don't off-road and its mostly for urban use/ school pick-up/ drop offs. Needs to have good grip in the wet/rain. Would be great if it had less road noise as well and preferably more focused on a comfort ride.

I've gone through with the OEMS which were the Bridgestone Dueller H/Ps and are on special right now (4 for the price of 3 at Bob Jane and Bridgestone) as well as Supercats (which sucked). Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Cheers.

P.S. Can't seem to add any tags for this post, sorry.

    Michelins all the way.

Pilot sports if you want the maximum wet and dry grip, latitude tour hp if you go to snow a lot and Primacy 4 s if you want a sort of regular tire.

I have the exact same car (year / model).

Started with Dueller H/P Sport from factory. Kept for 4.5 year / 45.000 km.

Then Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season. Now had for just over 3 years / 40.000 km. Will keep a bit longer. Wet grip is not as good as the Bridgestone Dueler otherwise good. Cost was around 1000 from Subaru installed. Same at Bob Jane recently (1200 minus 200 promotion).

Next time I will consider either the Dueler HP Sport on sale around 1200 (1600 normal and not often on sale)

    or

Conti PremiumContact 6, good test results. Price recently 1250 minus 100 promo so 1150.

Not familiar with Michelin but worth checking!

Have the same model and agree with the others Pilot Sports or the Conti 6; the OEM Duellers are also fine but are a bit noisy. However its not a major thing and especially if its mostly urban use (vs long highway drives). Just turn the volume up on the sound system… So whatever is cheapest, they are all good tyres

Toyo Tires i recommend highest long life

    • Really? How much are they usually? Cant seem to find prices online.

See if you can get the proxies. I went from bridge stones yokos to toyo, i tried it first then now its on all my cars + recommended to relatives. The cost to wear life span to comfort to driving is up there without breaking your bank.

I have them fitted to 2 corollas 40 000km still going, one work van 50 000km + and my ute.
Heaps of 4wd owners have the open country AT tires.

      • Can't really generalize that by brand, look up reviews for the specific tyre you want. Also longer life usually means less grippy.

I wouldn't say that. It depends on driving habits

do you brake late or early in wet weather?
do you ride close to the gutters?
do you take more speed into corners?
do you take more risk in wet weather.

I say OP should consider every brand that isnt Chinese owned.
I had pirelli once thinking they were good worn down after 30 000km. Changed to toyos still going strong

          • @George Washington: A lot of the tyres made in countries where rubber is actually made and it's real rubber have great traction, wear, grip and longevity.
(eg Thailand,Malaysia,Indonesia) And the consistency is good on most, as is the noise level (with appropriate tread pattern) (Agree. Avoid the 'recycled' waste crap rubber ? that Chinese economic ones are made from, that smell like creosote.) Tyres should not still stink after months but Chinese rubber always does. It also wafts through Bunnings stores. )

    • The poor wet weather traction wore me out before the tyres were worn out.

  • Pirelli P Zero (Dry)
    Pirelli Cinturato (Wet)

  • Read the reviews. There's plenty of midrange tyres (nexxen, Maxxis etc) that outperform big name brands, which I find wear way to quick for the price

Don't recommend A001's (OEM tyre on 6GEN outbacks)
Installed Alenza A001's on my 5GEN family outback. I do very occasional trail driving (tops 500kms a year before lockdown and much less since), so was happy to go more road-focussed compared to the OEM. Whilst I'm impressed with the noise and grip (defs can send it into corners more, esp in the wet), I've been quite let down with tyre life. The OEM's did 55k km over 5 years (with a lot more trail/country driving) and had some tread remaining when i replaced. This set has barely 30k (and was 99% on-road over lockdown and since) and my mechanic only passed my latest roadworthy because I promised my friend/mechanic I'd buy a new set over BF sales. So effectively half the use life (and the same brand).

Considering G015's as the vehicle is likely going to do some camping trips and I'm looking to maximise km/$ returns (have them on my personal 4wd), but that will compromise ride quality. Otherwise a good tyre with reasonable noise and wet grip. Following comments here for other recommendations here for more practical options

    • I think ive found my deal.
BF 50% off Pirelli at mycar, so will be getting a set of scorpio verde all seasons

Bridgestone has Bridgestone benefit which is really good in my experience: free tyre check, free tyre puncture fix, free tyre rotation, etc.

    • Have you used em with a Subaru outback before? What's the experience been like?

  • Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'm leaning towards going with the Michelin Pilot Sports at this stage. Lemme see if I can find a good deal on em.

    Cheers all
