Please Recommend Thermal + Compression Gear

I'm looking for recommendations for compression (GP recommended for health reasons) gear that can be used when travelling to cold countries for layering under other clothes to help keep warm, but still be useful as athletic gear here afterwards.

Is that even possible? I don't mind spending on good quality stuff if it's going to last and be useful.
Thanks for any suggestions

  • If you're referring to DVT stockings, why not go for wool blend? The extra loft will add warmth but you'll only want to wear them in cool conditions.

    • Nah, not stockings- exercise gear to help with muscle fatigue etc

For good quality brands, here are a couple of suggestions / recommendations :

    Compression - Skins

    Thermals - Icebreaker

I have a lot of TSLA gear https://www.amazon.com.au/stores/TSLA/page/B78DD5B0-18B8-41E… . I use the compression gear for winter activities (running, hiking etc - I'm in Canberra) and the non compression gear for layering (although I have been known to wear the tights under my trackie pants on cold days around the house)

note - they sell compression wicking stuff (for hotter temps) and compression warmth stuff, which is what you want. So make sure you pick the right version - on the link above, look at the 'baselayers' tab

Its cheaper than other brands but I think its just as good unless you really need the compression element vs the warmth with some compression. I have skins gear as well and skins probably does compression better, but it doesnt do heat or breathability any better.

In any case. with TSLA you can give it a go for not as much money and see whether it works, what you want etc without wasting too much

  • They're different products.
Compression wear actually makes me feel cold if anything (Squeezes the blood out of your capillaries I guess)

Definitely go for Wool Thermals if you value not overheating and prefer not to be stinky!

    • Interesting - thanks for your input

    • prefer not to be stinky!

      This.

Merino wool is light, wicks sweat easily
-AND- doesn't smell like artificial fibres,
      after repeated wears.

So, you can wear them longer,
without washing and not 'smell' :-)

  • For compression gear keep an eye on the ALDI sales.

I have bought Under armour, 2xu, skins and aldi great rates better than a couple of those brands in my anecdotal evidence.
