Google Pixel 6a 128GB $399 Delivered @ Telstra

1450

Google Pixel 6a, 128gb in two different colours - charcoal or chalk.

EDIT: Chalk only available as at Thurs 16 Nov.

Phone is supposedly locked to Telstra, but even factoring in the unlock fee for those on other networks it still looks to be a good deal. Cracker for those on Telstra. Can't find the specific unlock costs on Telstra website but I've been quoted $100 if it is unlocked within 6 months of purchase.

Free delivery, and for those who care it includes unlimited calls and text to standard national numbers and 10GB to use in Australia within 14 days if you activate on Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile.

    • They are locked, I asked on live chat

Glad it came back in stock, thanks!

PS if you can live with Telstra/Boost for 6 months, then $25 unlock fee (if indeed locked) seems reasonable

I just broke my phone & have been looking at this deal - anyone got a crystal ball should I wait until black Friday deals for something else in the circa $400 range or jump on this one

    • Cheaper option now with the Mobilicity eBay plus deal.

Anyone taken delivery and can confirm the locked status? I'm assuming it's unlocked but want to be sure.

I take solace that no one is complaining.

  • +4

Was able to make calls using my Amaysim. I guess its not locked then.

    • +2

      As suspected. Thank you.

Although making a call on the Optus network is quite a feat. Congratulations.

    • Mine just arrived and the packaging seems to indicate its locked, should I go ahead and try with old sim anyway? Only ordered as replacement while old phone is hopefully getting repaired

      • +1

        Nothing to lose trying.

I have mine too but it's a Christmas present. Just want to know if I need to activate a Telstra Sim or I'm free to use a carrier with value.

        • +1

I'll let you know! I guess boost is also a decent option on telstra

        • +2

Yep mine seems to be unlocked

  • How long does it take for delivery?

    • +1

i ordered yesterday and getting delivered today.
P.S- i work for Telstra as a contractor which somehow Ozbargain knows so making me tick the associate but I got nothing to do with this deal officially lol

      • thanks man! my 4a literally just died today and need a replacement asap.

      • when did you get an email that your order has been shipped from warehouse btw?

    • +1

I didn't order this, but usually when I order stuff from Telstra via their rewards store, it comes next business day or the day after that. I'm in Sydney though

    • I ordered Tuesday night, arrived today

      • when did you get an email that your order has been shipped from warehouse btw?

        • Didn't get any email. Just an sms this morning that it was arriving today.

    • Do you get a notification when it's shipped or does it just show up?

      • +1

I got an sms yesterday morning that its coming that day.

Placed an order on the 14th and received a purchase receipt confirmation, but am yet to take delivery.

Called Telstra up and messaged via their app while I was on hold. App chat advised that the order had been delivered, while the rep on the phone had no idea and told me to just continue via the app. Confirmed my delivery address with them, and they then told me that the order status is on backorder, with an approximate wait time of 2 weeks.

I queried chat on why they advised that the phone had been delivered but they did not address the question… now they're saying the best they can do is to escalate with the "concern team".

First time I've been charged for an item on backorder.

    • In a similar boat, purchased 15/11 and received order confirmation but nothing more. Doesn't show up in my account in order history so no way to check status.

Telstra website asks for order number to track order, but I only have an invoice number and that doesn't work. 'Contact us' options only send you in an endless loop, there seems to be no way to get an update other than calling during business hours. Very frustrating.

      • Have just been told it has been urgently escalated and I will get an update on my order within 5 business days. First time dealing with telstra in 20 years and will be my last.

I got assigned a case manager who has advised that stock is expected between 4-6 weeks (this is after I was previously advised 2 weeks by a chat representative).

I also asked about why this page shows as “In Stock” when you purchase outright: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/mobiles-on-a-plan/g…

They told me “our online stock is not updated”. So appears to be luck of the draw when purchasing something labelled as In Stock from Telstra.

    • Some piss poor customer service. Expected more from someone like Telstra. Not hard to email customers when they have to backorder something. Instead they tell you call back after the 8th business day forewell knowing it's on back order. Then say oops it's on back order another 3 weeks. Don't worry you have not been charged. Oops yes actually you have. Don't worry it will come in a few weeks, thanks for begging us for an answer.

      • They must think since they're not Optus they don't need to try anymore, customers will just come flocking to them. What the hell is wrong with their systems? How do they need 5 business days to lookup my order and see the phone is on backorder? Absolutely horrendous

Ordered 10 days ago, haven't received any email since.

Called phone support, they said they can't help with online orders must use the website chat.
Getting into the chat was a pain in the a*s as it kept looping me to login again after I clicked on chat, eventually figured there's somewhere a different button… took an hour to wait on the chat as it was obvious they can't find the order in the system…
After 1 hour I got told it's waiting at the post office to be picked up… I asked why I didn't get any notification and this was the response:

I am sorry to know that you have not received any email update regarding the order. As this is an online order it may not have been registered to our system. We will update this as feedback, so please do not worry.

I mean - WTF? This is the kind of service I'd expect from some third tier grey import shop…

Terrible sevice and communications but good outcome at least!

I haven't dealt with Telstra in forever, is this standard for them? Or has there been some major system failure?

'Online orders may not be registered in our system', WTH? That makes zero sense. And how can they think 5 days to check the status of an order is acceptable?

      • I made an order last week. I contacted Testra support on chat and on phone as there was an error in my address. There is an invoice number in the order confirmation email. It seems Telstra can't track the order without an order number. They asked me to wait for 48 hours for an order email to arrive, but I am still waiting. What a stupid service from Telstra. I am not sure how magically they get an order number from invoice number in 48 hours.

        • I would keep hassling them on chat until you get someone helpful.

          • +1

@AncientWisdom: I would have spent at least 3 hours for this issue so far. They have now assigned a case manager and it seems he needs 3 days to contact me. bureaucracy at its peak.

            • @deals007: I never found anyone who could actually check the status of my order, but fortunately the phone did arrive. I never received an order number, dispatch notification or any emails beyond the initial order confirmation.

I've also had ongoing problems with my address when buying boost plans. They keep wanting to change my address to the next street over - both streets have been here since the 60s so I have no idea what the problem is. I've logged the issue multiple times but can't get it fixed. They also seem to have no system in place to track issues.

How the entire system doesn't just fall over is a complete mystery to me, I've never dealt with a company with such poor processes.

  • is there anyway to pay for this using my telstra credit? Got some telstra credits I want to burn

I tried reward store but it is not on discount there.

    Thanks

Got mine. Works as expected with my Boost sim.

Unfortunately. last Sunday, my partner threw out my old (but live) Optus and Voda sims so couldn't check that .

  • +2

Just received mine. Don't think Pixel locks their phone. Also, Out of stock already on Telstra site.

For those still waiting on their order to arrive:
regular sim - Tested Vodafone Sim and it works.
e-sim - not tested. no e-sim account to transfer. not sure if Telstra locked it.

  • +2

Bought 23/11, received 27/11. Using Vodafone esim and kogan physical Sim simultaneously no problems without unlocking.

    • I put my Amaysim SIM in it yesterday and it worked for calls and SMS last night but, this morning it has a no SIM found error. I tried restarting and removing and reinserting the SIM but no joy?

Do they ever take time to detect a nonTelstra SIM and then lock it remotely?

Has this happened to anyone else?

      • Just FYI. After a few goes of removing the SIM and restarting. Gave it a wipe and reinsert, now it's working. Hopefully just some dodgy contacts on the SIM card. I'll have to try switching to an esim if it drops out again.

  • so is this phone locked or unlocked? A Telstra live chat rep says its locked but everyone here is saying it is unlocked?

    • Mine appears to be unlocked (working on an Optus reseller sim)
