Atoto probably the most reliable chinese brand.

  • Shame its not the F7 XE. Thats the only one that will fit my single DIN application. But even then, the S8 series with actual Android OS would be better.

These F7 series ones use Linux and appear to be a bit limited in features and not customisable compared to S8. But would be ok if you want to do everything on AA/Carplay.

But its missing things like the cool virtual birds-eye view reverse camera on the S8. And of course things like TPMS and Torque OBD stuff is not a native option on these compared to S8.

I have this exact model in my 2011 lancer sedan

    PROS
    + Easy install
+ Nice bright display (good low brightness too)
+ Fairly smooth and responsive..boots to AA in 5-7 seconds
+ unit build quality is good

    CONS
    - display gets hot on hot days (duh) but slows a little
    - not a matte display.. a lot of glare

    Deal breakers
    - the Mic is absolutely terrible (fixed with BT Mic on my sun visor)

    for this price.. 7.5/10

What BT mic are you using? My head unit's mic is terrible too.

      • If it has a mic input the best would be to run a corded mic to the sun visor, a pillar or top of the steering column

    • What’s the speed and response like on it. I have used other non branded units and they were pretty slow at booting, changing menus and the like.

    • wonder whether I could mount a 12V fan at the back of it to cool it constantly……

    • I've got one installed in my 2010 Lancer. Agree with all your points above but would like to add a few things I have experienced:

      PROS
+ Easy install. Only slight difficulty was adding an additional wire in for the steering wheel controls. Can't remember if it was the ATOTO or the Mitsubishi harness which was missing the required pin.

      CONS
      - Occasionally crashes. For some reason I have a lot of trouble streaming tune-in radio with google maps open and both apps displaying on the screen. I have only tried wireless android auto so maybe sticking a cable in will make it more stable.
      - Audio quality seems to be worse than the stock head unit (with stock lancer base model speaker setup). Is a bit worse but passable when using CarPlay/Android Auto but FM/AM radio quality is horrendous.

Overall, I am happy enough with this radio that I would not go back to life without android auto / car play, but I am keep an eye out for bargains on a brand name head unit, mostly due to audio / radio quality issues.
